In 1989, Mother Lily Monteverde launched Jean Garcia in a horror movie titled Impaktita. Jean had no less than Richard Gomez and Aga Muhlach as leading men. Gloria Romero and Nida Blanca, both movie queens, also played important roles in Jean's launching film.
This year, Jenica Garcia, Jean's daughter, is walking the same path as she is being introduced also in a Regal horror film, Hide and Seek. For her onscreen partner, Jenica has Mart Escudero of StarStruck Batch 4.
What makes Hide and Seek doubly special for Jenica and Jean is the fact that it is the first time that the mother and daughter will work together on a project. "It's been great working with Jenica on a movie!" declares Jean. "The project became a bonding moment. At least now that she's already in the business like me, she has a better understanding of the kind of work I do and how I work hard just to give her and her brother a good life."
Jenica, likewise, treasures the chance to work with her mom whom she describes as very supportive. "Pero noong una parang awkward, nakaka-conscious," the younger Garcia confesses. "Kasi lagi siyang may comment from my makeup to kung paano ako magsalita. Noong tumagal na, hindi ko na naiisip na mommy ko siya. Naisip ko na pareho kaming artista and we both want to do a good job."
Whether in career or family, Jean believes in teamwork. She hopes that aside from the acting tips she has imparted, Jenica has picked up good traits. "Kung may traits, mannerisms or mga paniniwala sa buhay na magkapareho kami ngayon, sana na lang nakuha niya yung mga positive naman. Siyempre, bilang mommy niya, ayoko naman na pati mga pagkakamali ko sa buhay at pagdaan niya.
"Sana magkaroon rin siya ng dedication and love for work, walang sawang pagmamahal at suporta sa pamilya, lalo na sa kapatid at magkaroon ng magandang pakikisama sa kapwa. Gusto ko patuloy siyang maging matapang humarap sa buhay gaano man kahirap at karami ang dumating na pagsubok."
