Dennis Padilla, uncomfortable being a "house husband"

Though confused by the trial separation setup, many see this as a positive sign that there's great possibility for Dennis Padilla and Marjorie Barretto to get back together. "At least, there's the word trial," says one reporter. "So perhaps they're not closing their doors."

Dennis Padilla's brother, Gene, spoke up in defense of the actor-comedian.

"Okay naman. Nag-uusap naman daw sila ni Marjorie at nung mga bata," Gene reveals in the May 27 episode of Showbiz Central.

In his May 25 Philippine STAR column, entertainment journalist Ricky Lo spilled the beans that Dennis and wife Marjorie Barretto have separated, though the couple preferred to call it a "trial separation."

According to reports, Dennis is currently staying in an apartment, which incidentally was used by Marjorie as her campaign headquarters when she ran as Caloocan councilor during the May 14 elections. Marjorie, who won the post, continues to stay in their conjugal house with the children.

NOT TRUE. Gene thrashes all the rumors surrounding the split, most notably accusations of infidelity on the side of Dennis and Marjorie.

"Hindi totoo ‘yon. Gawa-gawa lang ‘yon ng mga kalaban sa pulitika," declares Gene when asked about the rumor that Marjorie was having an illicit affair with Caloocan City Mayor Recom Echiverri.

About Dennis being unfaithful, Gene had this to say: "Kilala ko ang kapatid ko. Hindi niya magagawa sa asawa niya ‘yon, lalo na sa mga bata. Mahal niya ang pamilya niya."

Gene also frowned on the issue of Dennis's alleged bouts with alcohol—one of the reported reasons that Marjorie opted to part ways with her husband.

"It's not true," he states. "Again, kilala ko ang kapatid ko and he's not like that."

Marjorie and Dennis, based on Ricky Lo's column, mutually agreed that the strain in the relationship was mainly because of Dennis.

Marjorie was even quoted saying that the separation would stand "until Dennis change his ways."

PRESSURE. Meanwhile, friends close to the couple have mixed feelings about the so-called "trial separation."

Actor-singer Gabby Eigenmann feels that the couple is just under tremendous pressure, with both Dennis and Marjorie adjusting to their newfound roles.

"Particularly with Dennis because with Marjorie's latest political victory, he found himself as a house husband all of a sudden," explains Gabby.

Dennis, in a Startalk interview shown last Saturday, May 26, admitted that he was feeling uneasy about the sudden reversal of roles. Dennis formerly served Caloocan as a councilor before Marjorie assumed the post.

"Naninibago ako bigla kasi hindi ako sanay na siya ‘yong umuuwi ng gabi dahil sa trabaho tapos ako ‘yong naghihintay sa bahay. Dati ako ‘yon, e," confesses the comedian.
