Noong una, inakala raw ni Gabriel na “fake news” lang ang gagawing pelikula, hanggang makumpirma niyang “a relative had unilaterally decided that he would enter into an agreement with outside parties to produce the Malvar film without the express consent of the entire clan.”

“DIRECT DESCENDANTS WERE NOT CONSULTED”

Iginiit ni Gabriel sa kanyang post, “The different lines of direct descendants were not informed nor consulted.”

“He was the living embodiment of the virtues and values we aspire for: generosity, integrity, hard work, honesty, dedication, concern for the welfare of others,” dagdag ni Gabriel.

“My great-grandfather’s legacy speaks for itself. It is a legacy worth protecting.”

NOTHING POLITICAL IN MALVAR BIOPIC, PLEASE

“Had I been consulted, I would have said that I preferred someone not involved in politics or in public service to portray him,” post pa ni Miguel.

Dagdag niya, “I do not think he would have preferred to have his name associated with anyone in politics. I would like his name and legacy totally apart from the political milieu.”

PACQUIAO WILL OUTSHINE MALVAR

Paglalarawan ni Gabriel kay Pacquiao: “He is an icon. A global brand.”

Kaya naman, ayon kay Gabriel, “My fear is that he is larger than life and his character cannot be separated from Manny Pacquiao the person.

“If he plays lolo Miguel, the viewers will not be able to see and appreciate my grandfather.

“Senator Pacquiao’s personality will dominate.

“That is not a knock on the senator. It is the truth.

“He is too big to be contained in any role for that matter.”

Sa huli, binigyang-diin ni Gabriel na, “I have nothing to do with this film.

“This does not have my approval.

“Huwag nating sirain ang kanilang alaala.”

PRODUCER DEFENDS PACQUIAO

Saad sa official statement ng produksiyon (published as is): “The overwhelming acceptance and acclamation of the choice of Sen. Manny Pacquiao to play the major role in in the movie ‘MALVAR’ as Gen. Malvar, is a proof that the public accept the fact that Sen. Manny Pacquiao, that apart from being a Senator, he is also well known in the Movie World as a consummate actor, as well as being a Boxing World Champion who is famous all over the world.”

Iginiit din ng JMV Film Production na nababahiran ng “political agenda” ang pagtutol ng ilan sa pagbibida ni Pacquiao bilang Heneral Malvar, dahil mayroong nasa sektor ng pulitika ang “even using close relatives of Gen. Malvar to sow intrigues to serve the interest of some political sectors opposed to the Government.”
