Veteran journalist Twink Macaraig dies after battle with breast cancer

Veteran journalist Twink Macaraig passed away Tuesday, January 14, after a long battle with cancer. She was 56.

Pumanaw na ang beteranang broadcast journalist na si Twink Macaraig ngayong Martes, January 14.

Siya ay 56 taong gulang.

Si Twink ay dating news anchor ng ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC).

Naging Filipino bureau chief din siya ng Channel News Asia.

Noong February 2012 ay lumipat si Twink sa TV5.

Una siyang nakipaglaban sa sakit na breast cancer noong unang bahagi ng 2000.

Nalagpasan ito ni Twink, pero ikinagulat niya nang nagbalik ang kanyang cancer noong August 2016.

Sa panayam ng programang Reaksyon ng TV5 noong August 2016, sinabi ni Twink na ipinauubaya na niya sa Panginoon ang kanyang buhay.

Saad niya, “Bahala ka na, Diyos, I will spend my time on this earth, and then when I have to go, I’ll be ready.”

Sa kanya namang column sa The Philippine Star na "Deliberately," na lumabas noong March 24, 2019, sinabi ni Twink na matagal na siyang handa sa kanyang kamatayan.

Saad pa nito, “I’ve long made peace with my demise.

"My last will and testament—handwritten amidst many tears—is in the safe.

“I could Give Up. Succumb. Surrender.

"But I won’t.

"While the very heart of me—that chamber that stores my conscience and conviction, love and dreams, memory and self-respect—remains unbreached, I will fight.”

Naulila ni Twink ang kanyang asawang si Architect Paulo Alcazaren at isang anak na lalaki.

Si Twink ay anak nina former Executive Secretary Catalino Macaraig Jr., na nanungkulan noong panahon ni dating Pangulong Corazon Aquino, at Araceli Macaraig, na kapwa pumanaw na rin.
