AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. tests positive for COVID-19

Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. tests positive for COVID-19, and will be in self-quarantine from March 27 to April 10.

Positibo sa coronavirus disease o COVID-19 si Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Felimon Santos Jr.

Si Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana ang nag-anunsiyo nito ngayong Biyernes, March 27.

Ang AFP ay nakapailalim sa DND.

Ayon kay Secretary Lorenzana, mismong si General Santos ang nagpaalam sa kanya sa resulta ng COVID-19 testing nito.

Nakasaad sa press statement ng AFP Public Affairs Office (PAO) na March 23 nang sumailalim sa swab test ang heneral.

Nagpasuri si General Santos isang araw bago niya ihayag nitong March 24 na isang one-star general ang nagpositibo sa COVID-19.

Ang one-star general, na hindi pinangalanan, ang unang military personnel na nagpositibo sa virus.

Walang direktang pagtukoy, pero posibleng sa one-star general nahawa ang AFP Chief.

Kabilang kasi ang one-star general sa mga pinarangalan ni General Santos sa promotion ceremonies ng AFP kamakailan.

Ayon sa AFP-PAO, sa military quarters magka-quarantine ang AFP Chief simula ngayong March 27 hanggang sa April 10.

Tiniyak naman ng AFP na patuloy na magtatrabaho si General Santos habang naka-quarantine.

Aayudahan si General Santos nina AFP Vice Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Gaudencio Collado, Jr. at Deputy Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Erickson Gloria.

Dahil sa paglantad ng AFP Chief, inalerto na rin ng heneral ang mga nakasalamuha niya simula March 13 hanggang March 27 para mag-self quarantine.

Kaugnay nito, sinabi ni Secretary Lorenzana na naka-quarantine na siya ngayon.

Pero nilinaw ng kalihim na wala siyang sintomas ng COVID-19.

Sinabi ni Secretary Lorenzana na nagkaroon siya ng close contact kay General Santos nitong March 21 at March 23.

Noong March 21, nagkasama sila sa turnover ng medical supplies sa Villamor Air Base sa Pasay City.

Nasa turnover ceremony rin sina Senator Bong Go, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año, at Philippine Air Force (PAF) Chief Lt. Gen. Allen Paredes.

Nagkasama rin sina Secretary Lorenzana at General Santos sa isang meeting sa AFP General Headquarters sa Camp Aguinaldo sa Quezon City nitong March 23.

Nang araw na iyon, nagkaroon din ang close contact ang dalawa sa Heroes Hall sa Malacañang.

COVID-19 FIGHT IN QUESTION?

Ngayong naka-quarantine ang pinakamatataas na opisyal ng DND at AFP, maaaring maapektuhan ang mga hakbangin ng gobyerno kontra COVID-19.

Si General Santos ang namumuno sa militar, na pangunahing frontliner sa pagpapatupad ng enhanced community quarantine sa Luzon.

Samantalang si Secretary Lorenzana ay kaa-appoint lang bilang pinuno ng National Task Force COVID-19.

Ang task force na ito ang naatasang magpatupad ng mga polisiya ng Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
