Mayor Isko says this is the city government officials' way of "showing unity and compassion to the nation's healthcare workers who are battling the COVID-19 outbreak."

MAYOR ISKO THANKS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

House Speaker Alan Cayetano and "nearly 200 of their members have pledged to donate their salaries to fund the government's anti-COVID-19 efforts."

Mayor Isko also thanks the Cabinet secretaries who will donate "75% of their salaries for the cause."

MAYOR ISKO CHALLENGES SENATORS

The Manila mayor went on Facebook Live last Thursday, April 2, to update the city of Manila about the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

In his live online broadcast, Isko called for public officials to set aside their political differences and focus all efforts into fighting COVID-19.

As Mayor Isko put it: "Pahinga muna tayo ng politika.

senate president sotto: "MAYAYABANG NA LOCAL OFFICIAL"

Isko's public appeal drew reactions from Senate President Tito Sotto and Senator Panfilo Lacson.

Both officials said that the national government has been doing its part to help.

He then added that "arrogant" local officials should not use this time as an opportunity to advance their personal ambitions.

For his part, Senator Lacson responded directly to Mayor Isko's call, saying it was wrong of the mayor to suggest that the Senate has not yet done its part.

The Bayanihan Act refers to Republic Act No. 11469, otherwise known as "Bayanihan to Heal as One Act," which grants President Rodrigo Duterte special powers.
