Jericho Rosales, wife Kim Jones pull out surfboards, brave floods to assist Marikina residents

As it was in 2009 when Typhoon Ondoy hit the country, Jericho Rosales makes use of his surfboard in the wake of Typhoon Ulysses to offer assistance to residents in a village in Marikina City. This time, Jericho did it with wife Kim Jones (right photo).

Sinuong ng mag-asawang Jericho Rosales at Kim Jones ang baha gamit ang surfboards para makatulong sa mga ka-village sa Marikina City.

Matinding tinamaan ang malaking bahagi ng Luzon dahil sa hagupit ng typhoon Ulysses, gabi ng Miyerkules, November 11, hanggang kinabukasan, November 12.

Kabilang ang Marikina sa sinalanta ng bagyo, at tumaas ang level ng tubig sa Marikina River dahil sa tuluy-tuloy na buhos ng ulan.

Sa katunayan, ang inabot ng Marikina River na water level na 22 meters ngayong Typhoon Ulysses ay mas mataas pa kesa sa water level nitong 21.5 meters noong Typhoon Ondoy.

Ito rin ang dahilan kung bakit binaha ang village na tinitirhan nina Jericho at Kim.

Ang ginawa ng mag-asawa ay ginamit ang kanilang surfboards para tulungan ang mga residente sa village.

Hobby ng celebrity couple ang surfing.

Hindi na rin bago kay Jericho ang paggamit ng surfboard para makatulong sa mga stranded sa baha.

Ganito rin ang ginawa niya noong 2009, kung saan nailigtas niya ang stranded na isang batang lalaki, isang lola, at isang aso.

Pero sa pagkakataong ito, sinabi ni Jericho na natatakot ang mga pinuntahan nilang residente at maghihintay na lamang daw sila ng rescuers.

Nagbigay na lamang sina Jericho sa kanila ng update tungkol sa bagyo.

“Ayaw na nilang lumabas ng bahay, e. Takot sila kasi gusto nila may coast [guard] sana,” pahayag ni Jericho sa panayam ng ABS-CBN News ngayong umaga.

Nag-aalala raw ang mga residente na baka magkasakit kapag sumuong sa tubig-baha.

“Natatakot sila baka may leptospirosis. Ayaw na nilang bumaba doon. Binigyan na lang namin sila ng information na, at least, yung bagyo nakalabas na.

“Siguro wala silang internet, pero yon, pero safe naman sila, second floor parang ganon.”

Paliwanag naman ni Jericho, naisip nilang mag-asawa na tumulong dahil alam nilang bahain ang kanilang lugar.

“This morning, paglabas namin ng bahay, usually, pag baha dito… Kasi ganyan talaga, and laging ganoon yung problema.

“Sometimes walang boat or flotation device, so, naglabas kami ni Kim ng surfboards.”

Pag-update pa ni Jericho sa mga residenteng tinangka nilang tulungan, “Okay naman naman sila. Safe naman sila, thank God.”

Ibinahagi rin ni Jericho na maging ang rescuers ay nahirapang makapasok sa kinaroroonan ng ilang residente sa Marikina.

“May mga iba lang na hindi makapunta yung mga rescue team doon kasi malakas na yung agos. Wala pang boat, so naghihintay sila."

MAS MASAMA ITONG NANGYARI SA ULYSSES KESA ONDOY

Sa tingin din ni Jericho, mas matindi ang sitwasyon sa Bagyong Ulysses kumpara sa Bagyong Ondoy.

Ito raw ay sa aspeto ng kahandaan.

Paliwanag ni Jericho, “Wala akong data or facts, pero in a sense na hindi natin nalaman na tataas nang ganito, mas malala ito para sa akin.

“Kasi parang paggising ng mga tao, napuyat sila kagabi, paggising nila ganyan na.

“Kasi maraming taong hindi nakaalis. So based on, like, yung nangyari na before, tapos caught by surprise na naman tayo, na ganito, I think in that sense medyo mas malala siguro.”

Sa social media, sunud-sunod ang pag-post ng mga residente mula sa mga naapektuhang lugar, lalong-lalo na sa Marikina at sa Rizal na umabot na sa bubong ang tubig.

As of 10:00 a.m. ngayong umaga ng November 12, napaulat na ang mata ng bagyo ay nasa West Philippine Sea, pero nag-iwan ito ng matinding pinsala sa Luzon.
