Eduardo Roy Jr. passed away because of lymphoma, Monday, February 21, 2022. The 41-year-old director helmed the critically-acclaimed films Pamilya Ordinaryo, Fuccbois, and Lola Igna.

Pumanaw na ang award-winning director na si Eduardo "Edong" Roy Jr. dahil sa lymphoma o cancer sa lymphatic system, noong Lunes, February 21, 2022.

Siya ay 41 taong gulang lamang.

Ang kapatid ni Edong na si Myla Roy ang nagkumpirma ng pagpanaw ng direktor sa pamamagitan ng isang opisyal na pahayag na ipinadala niya sa PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) ngayong Miyerkules ng hapon, February 23.

“It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Eduardo 'Edong' Roy Jr. on February 21, 2022 at the Saint Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City. He has been diagnosed with Lymphoma last year.

“Edong was a beloved son, brother, and friend. He was the writer and director of local and internationally acclaimed award winning films such as Bahay Bata, Quick Change, Pamilya Ordinaryo, Lola Igna, Fuccbois.

“A wake will be held on February 24 to 26, 2022 at the Arlington Memorial Chapels Hall A in G. Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.”

Ang unang pelikula ni Roy bilang film director ay ang Cinemalaya 2011 entry na Bahay Bata. Pinagbidahan ito ni Diana Zubiri na nanalong best performer sa Young Critics Circle para sa role nitong nurse.

Nanalo naman ang Bahay Bata ng Jury Prize sa 2012 Deauville Asian Film Festival sa Deauville, France; at Best First Time Director para kay Roy sa 2012 Las Palmas Film Festival ng Gran Canaria, Spain.

Ang iba pa niyang award-winning films ay Pamilya Ordinaryo (2016), Fuccbois, at Lola Igna (2019).

Si Roy ang itinanghal na Best Director sa Cinemalaya 2019 para sa Fuccbois.

Sa TV naman ay nakapagdirek siya ng ilang episodes sa mga drama anthology na Wagas, Ipaglaban Mo, at Maalaala Mo Kaya; at ang BL series na Oh, Mando!
