Shaina Magdayao radiated a pretty glow when she walked in her solo press conference yesterday, April 26, at the 14th floor of the ABS-CBN Network in Quezon City.
It could have been the orange sleeveless top or the bright yellow, floor-length skirt she wore, but the smile that she put on the moment she apologized for her being late said it all.
Shaina is happy.
Five months after her last soap, Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo, concluded, the actress now joins the cast of the Coco Martin-starrer, Juan dela Cruz.
The 23-year-old actress had the chance of working with Coco in the 2010 film Sa 'Yo Lamang and has since hoped they would bump into each other in another project.
Fortunately, while on her birthday vacation in Europe in November last year, Shaina bumped into Coco who was shooting the romance film, A Moment in Time, in Paris with young actress Julia Montes.
Shaina narrated that during her five-day trip, ABS-CBN heads Deo Endrinal and Biboy Arboleda, sent her a text message asking if she could meet up with them. Travelling solo and with no plans during that time, Shaina agreed to see them.
The actress recalled, “Ayun, so nagkita-kita kami dun sa isang restaurant sa Paris.
“Tapos dun na naman naungkat na, ‘Bakit nga ba hindi tayo [Shaina and Coco] nagtatrabaho pa, 'no? Bakit nga ba hindi tayo matuluy-tuloy?’”
Fast forward to five months after that meeting, Shaina is now a part of Juan dela Cruz as the new leading lady. Kapamilya actress Erich Gonzales plays the other leading lady of the primetime soap.
Shaina’s character enters the world of the aswangs and humans as Mirathea or Mira, a representative of the world of engkantadas or fairies.
HAPPY 2013. By praying that her 2013 be a good year, does Shaina mean to say that 2012 turned out to be a bad year for her?
“Mahirap na maganda,” she answered.
“Challenging na maganda. Maganda pa rin naman po. Ganun naman ako, e.
“Kahit na siguro medyo nahirapan ako sa taon na yun, gusto ko na lang tingnan in a positive way na nahirapan man ako, marami naman akong natutunan.”
Shaina reckons that she would not be the person that she is today without having gone through her trials last year. If anything, the actress is grateful for the present year.
So far, Shaina says, 2013 is going well for her— “maganda naman!”
SOUL SEARCHIING AND PADRE PIO. Asked why she travelled on her own, Shaina told the group of entertainment writers that going away without company is something that she has done before.
Two years ago, Shaina toured Germany and Austria alone for two weeks. She said it was another birthday trip.
She even remarked, “Laging blessed e pag umaalis ako for my birthday!”
Shaina, who admitted to soul searching during her Germany and Austria trip, said that the reason why she opts to travel alone is to break away from her frenzied showbiz life.
For her 2012 Europe trip, Shaina made a pilgrimage to Padre Pio, the Italian Capuchin priest who was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002.
The actress, a devotee of Padre Pio, travelled from Paris to San Giovanni, Italy where the church of Saint Pio is located.
The actress, who made friends with nuns at the church, joked that she almost believed that she had a calling to be a nun.
Is that possible?
“For a greater purpose siguro?
READY TO FALL IN LOVE AGAIN. Shaina has turned to faith in getting past her 2012 breakup with actor John Lloyd Cruz.
It can be recalled that Shaina and John Lloyd called it quits in November 2011, reconciled shortly after, and split again sometime May 2012. (CLICK HERE to read related story) (CLICK HERE to read related story)
Almost a year after her controversial former relationship, is the actress ready to fall in love again?
Shaina replied, “I think? Pero I’m just waiting for the right person.
So, habang naghihintay ako, dito lang muna ako…”
Asked if she also prayed for her love life during her visit to Padre Prio, Shaina said that she sought healing.
“Sana i-heal niya ako at tulungan niya ako maging buo uli.”
Eliciting reaction from the media, Shaina laughed and retorted, “E, ganun naman!
PIOLO, SAM, LINO. In an interview after the press conference proper, the actress was asked to clarify if the rumors linking her to Piolo Pascual is true. Shaina is said to be a frequent guest at the actor’s condominium.
The actress quipped upon being asked, “Ay, hindi po.
“We run, nagba-badminton. Siya rin, busy rin…”
Being single, joked Shaina, has apparently become a problem.
“Siguro malinaw naman po that I am in no rush to enter a new relationship.
Tapos may trabaho pa ako. So, puro trabaho po muna iniisip ko.”
Inquired about Lino Cayetano, who directed Shaina’s last soap, Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo, the actress only said, “Parang maganda na sa kanila manggaling!”
Prodded to confirm if he is courting her, Shaina merely replied with a chuckle, “Siya na lang po tanungin ninyo.”
Magkaibigan kami.”
