Kuwento ni Martin, “I came from a show called MAD [Martin After Dark] and then I came from a show Late@Night, L@N... everything was an acronym before.
“Someone came up to me during one of my tapings before and asked me, ‘Mart, there’s gonna be a show and I can’t tell you what is this about. Pero kayo ni Pops, Ariel, and Dayanara Torres. What’s a good title?’
“So, apat kami e. So, first, I thought a title of a show... panget, e.
“And then I said, ‘What about ASAP?’
“’Why ASAP?’ Sabi ko, ‘It can be whatever you wanna it to be.’
“’No, no… what do you think it is?’
“Sabi ko, ‘We’re all stars, it’s Sunday, it’s an afternoon party.’”
ONLY THE ORIGINAL.
Sagot ng Concert King, “In the old days, it was just four hosts and everyone else performed—maggi-guest, magpu-promote.
ASAP will go on without me… I think, ha?
“What ASAP always was, was about family.
“And then, before, I was a married man then. Then, I was a broken man then.
“Ngayon, some of the stars, they’re getting married, some are breaking up, some are seeing this guy and now they’re seeing that guy… all in the same show!” tawa pa niya.
Ayon kay Martin, “I hope I’m a gauge, I hope I’m a peg.
“I don’t wanna be a senior or a has-been.
“I think ASAP didn’t made me anymore. I wouldn’t be here… you know, how fast it is now.
“Back in the day, nagdu-dwindle-dwindle yung mga artist na hindi nila alam na, ‘Oy, pare, tama na.’
“Dito sa ASAP, they have a way of finding place for all of us, reinventing our portions, surprising the audience by making Martin sing a new song or a making a new singer singing an old song.
“These possibilities are endless with ASAP.”
HELPLESS.
Pag-amin ni Martin, “Well, siyempre there are times na… I can speak for everybody, feeling mo, you want to do more.
“Sa dami-dami… before, I did everything.
“I even thought of the title, right? I wrote the first theme song. I did everything before.
“And then, all of a sudden, there’s so many people to do all the things I used to do all by myself.
“So, sometimes, I feel helpless. Sometimes, I feel, ‘Let me do more kahit behind the scenes. ‘
“Sometimes I don’t have a lot of numbers, I stay in the studio and see if I can help.
“If something falls, I run on the stage and pick it up.
“I mean, that’s what I want to teach the other artists, just learn how to pick up after each other.”
Sagot ni Martin, “No, I didn’t leave because of sama ng loob.
“I left to try my luck in the Las Vegas strip and it’s taking much longer than I expected.
“Ang mganda sa ASAP, they got me back. They never considered me gone.
“Like a family, you leave for a while, you go to college, you go and do your job.
“You still have a family to come home to.”
Pahayag niya tungkol dito, “They were getting me for other shows.
“That’s one thing I won’t do… If I will be transferring to other station, it would never be to go against ASAP.
“I was offered only to do my late-night show on another channel.
“I will never accept another noontime or a Sunday show against my own ASAP.
“I have also a little bit vested interest because I started the show.
