Siquijor Vice Governor Dingdong Avanzado reveals plan to run for Congress in 2016 elections.

Singer and Siquijor Vice Governor Dingdong Avanzado revealed that he is considering to run for Congress in the 2016 elections.

In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) today, August 12, Dingdong admitted that he is being eyed to be part of Liberal Party’s senatorial slate in the May 2016 national elections.

“I’m a bona fide member of the Liberal Party. We support the ‘Daang Matuwid’ principle.

“I was one of the people they were considering to be part of the line-up sa Senate.

“Sabi ko lang, I’m not really on that level yet. I’m not prepared for that.

“But maybe someday, if the opportunity presents itself, why not?

“As long as I know na ito ay ginagawa ko na tama ang frame of mind ko kung bakit ko gustong tumakbo.

“Na alam ko na mas may magagawa ako.

“Pero sa akin ngayon, ang importante para sa akin, tuluy-tuloy yung reporma papunta sa ‘Daang Matuwid.’”

Given a chance, the singer-turned-public servant maintained that he’d rather run as a representative for Siquijor.

“I cannot say with finality, kasi alam mo naman now, until yung filing [of candidacy in October], maraming puwedeng mangyari.

“But I’m leaning towards that. If I have the choice, I’d like to pursue that,” Dingdong added.

MUM ON MAR ROXAS’S VP BET. PEP also asked Dingdong if he’s privy to Mar Roxas’s final running mate in the 2016 elections.

But Dingdong remained non-committal about it, and merely stated that Senator Grace Poe, CamSur Representative Leni Robredo, and Batangas Governor Vilma Santos are all good vice presidential bets should they decide to run for the position.

The 47-year-old vice governor further stated: “Marami namang qualified na pupuwede.

“Lahat naman ng pinipili nila [Liberal Party], so far okay naman.

"They’re all worthy running mates, all the three ladies that they’re considering.

“They all have something to bring to the table and I think it will complement very much Secretary Roxas.”

Following the announcement of his presidential bid in 2016, Mar formally tendered his resignation as secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) last August 3.

President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, however, asked Mar to stay at DILG to finish his remaining tasks and for a proper transition of his cabinet post.

Dingdong, for his part, is also vocal about supporting Mar’s candidacy in 2016.

“Sana ang makita talaga ng tao ngayon, si Secretary Mar kasi over the past years, he has been getting bad publicity.

“Feeling ko minsan, misunderstood siya.

"I’m not saying na he’s perfect.

“I’m just saying there’s more to him than what they are saying.

“If you get to know the man, which I’ve had the privilege of, I feel he’s the one that can continue the Daang Matuwid principle.

“I believe he would really make a big difference.”
