Celebrities were all over at the launch yesterday, February 9, of the campaign season for the 2016 presidential elections.
The five presidential candidates held their proclamation rallies in their respective bailiwicks, with several stars as crowd-drawers.
The proclamation rally of Mar Roxas in Capiz Gymnasium in Roxas City was like a fiesta.
Roxas was accompanied by his wife Korina Sanchez, mother Judy Araneta, and son Paolo.
His running mate Leni Robredo, her family, and their party’s senatorial candidates were in attendance.
Singers Jett Pangan, Frenchie Dy, and Jonalyn Viray entertained the crowd before the politicians arrived.
Vice President Jejomar Binay’s proclamation rally in a slum area in Mandaluyong City was star-studded.
Comedy queen Ai-Ai delas Alas sang and danced to a pop song by Jennifer Lopez.
Binay even danced with her.
His senatorial slate includes world-class boxer Manny Pacquiao and actress Alma Moreno.
Moreno’s daughters Winwyn and VJ Marquez twerked on stage when she was introduced.
Vandolph Quizon, her son with Dolphy, was also present.
Gringo Honasan, Binay’s running mate, brought his daughter-in-law Barbie Almalbis to sing for the crowd.
Grace Poe’s proclamation rally in Plaza Miranda in Manila City did not skimp on entertainment as well.
The hosts were Eat Bulaga! stars Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo, and Ruby Rodriguez.
The performers included rock band Aegis, Kapamilya actress Janella Salvador, folk artist Bayang Barrios, and It’s Showtime’s Jugs and Teddy.
Also seen at Poe’s rally were Helen Gamboa, Jeffrey Santos, and Rez Cortez.
Less star-crazed were the proclamation rallies of Rodrigo Duterte in Tondo, Manila, and Miriam Defensor-Santiago in Ilocos Norte.
Duterte’s rally had singer April Boy Regino as the main audience-pleaser.
Santiago was visibly weak during her short proclamation rally with running mate Bongbong Marcos.
She left early for her appointments in Manila after entertaining the crowd with her popular pick-up lines.
