PEP YEARENDER 2016: McLisse, Jak, Sanya, Joshua, and other Best Bets for 2017

PEP lists ten newcomers who are starting to make a name for themselves in local showbiz. Who among them are likely to reach superstardom in 2017?

Last year, (Philippine Entertainment Portal) named ten newbies who made a mark in showbiz.

They were Bailey May, Ylona Garcia, Migo Adecer, Klea Pineda, Miles Ocampo, Grae Fernandez, Hiro Peralta, Anjo Damiles, Sebastian ‘Baby Baste’ Benedict, and Jazz Ocampo.

Some of our picks became household favorites. But few simply faded in the background.

As we welcome 2017, here are the newcomers in the industry who, we are betting, will be the next big stars.

McCoy de Leon and Elisse Joson met as housemates in Pinoy Big Brother.

PBB viewers were thrilled to see them cozying up to each other and gave them their love team brand, McLisse, one of the hottest pairings today.

McCoy’s claim to fame started when he was introduced as one of the members of It’s Showtime’s boy group, Hashtags.

Elisse found her way in showbiz through her popular food chain commercial where she portrayed a brokenhearted girl remembering her breakup with her boyfriend.

The two are now part of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.

Another Hashtags member on our list is Ronnie Alonte.

He comes from a political family in Biñan, Laguna, but this hottie prefers to be in showbiz.

Ronnie has shown his acting mettle in four Maalaala Mo Kaya episodes.

He is also in the cast of Seklusyon and Vince & Kath & James, two of the eight entries in the ongoing Metro Manila Film Festival 2016.

Ronnie also staged his solo concert at the Kia Theater last December 17.

Together with his group, he is seen regularly hosting and dancing on It’s Showtime.

Newcomer JC Santos brings added delight to the James Reid-Nadine Lustre series Till I Met You on ABS-CBN.

A theater veteran, JC said in his interviews that he is grateful for the big break the Kapamilya Network has given him.


The ‘Abs ng Bayan’ Kapuso star is slowly inching his way in showbiz.

He got his training in the now-defunct Walang Tulugan with the Mastershowman of the late German ‘Kuya Germs’ Moreno.

Jak showed televiewers his acting skills when he became part of GMA’s longest running daytime drama The Half Sisters.

In 2017, he is set to star in Meant To Be as one of Barbie Forteza’s leading men.

Sanya Lopez got on the fast lane of fame when GMA Network announced that she would be the new Danaya in the remake of Encantadia.

She was discovered on the set of Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman while visiting his older brother Jak Roberto.

Another Encantadia star, Kate Valdez, is now being dubbed as the next Angel Locsin.

This Liza Soberano look-alike is now being paired with Migo Adecer, StarStruck 6 Ultimate Male Survivor.


His name did not resonate with showbiz followers until GMA Network announced that he would play Matteo Do in the Philippine adaptation of My Love from the Star (MLFTS) opposite Jennylyn Mercado.

The PBB Lucky Season 7 Lucky Suns is now being groomed to be the next important love team of the network.


Last December 11, ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Boyband Superstar named the five members of the new Kapamilya boygroup BoybandPH.

They are Niel Murilio, Russell Reyes, Ford Valencia, Tristan Ramirez, and Joao Constancia.

The group is being eyed to be the Philippines’ version of One Direction.

Soon, they will release an album after the release of their single "We Made It," which they first sang during the final competition.
