TV host and media personality Kim Atienza, more popularly known as Kuya Kim, allegedly became a victim of a gun-toting incident when he had a close call with a police officer last month, his dad claims.
Buhay Party-list Representative Lito Atienza said his son was cycling with three friends in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, when the incident occurred, the Inquirer reports.
"Biglang may um-overtake na kotse, galit na galit. Binabaan sila, tinutukan sila ng baril sa mukha lahat," the older Atienza said.
Atienza added that his son believes that the suspect, who they later found out to be a police colonel in the province, was probably irked after their group overtook him along the highway.
He also lamented how things could have easily taken a turn for the worse given the country's current situation, where killings have become a regular occurrence.
"We don't want this to happen to you, any citizen, to be victimized by the culture of death. They are not afraid to kill anymore," Atienza said.
Official police records show that at least 3,200 suspects have been killed in legitimate anti-drug operations while over 2,000 individuals have died in other incidents since the government started its war on drugs. Human-rights watch groups put the number above 10,000.
