On Wednesday afternoon, July 18, actor Alex Medina reposted a list titled “Paalala Upang Maiwasan ang Rape.”
The list was a revised one that was posted on Instagram by Cosmopolitan Philippines, where the last tip read “Huwag mang-rape.”
Alex captioned his Instagram post: "Paalala para maiwasan ang rape."
In the comments section, one netizen joked: "Pwede po bang magpaRape sayo [smile emojis]."
Alex did not find it funny, and responded: “Siguro iwasan na lang ganyan joke next time labyu”
Others following the thread slammed the netizen for the offensive joke.
Another netizen commented, but the comment appears to have been erased.
Based on the reaction in the thread, the deleted comment blamed the victims for opening themselves to rape because of the way they dressed or acted.
Alex also responded and advised the netizen to be open-minded, admitting he held the same opinion when he was younger.
The netizen apologized for blaming the victims of rape.
In a related development, the Angono Municipal Police Station also circulated on social media a list titled "Paalala Upang Makaiwas sa Rape."
However, some netizens did not find the list helpful and stressed it should have included one vital tip: “Huwag mang-rape.”
Via Facebook, the Angono Rizal PNP posted an apology for the omission.
