David Licauco, 22, said that one of the life-changing moments in his life was when he got into a car accident in 2013.
It happened when he and his friends were just about to head back to Manila from a quick trip to Tagaytay.
“Pababa kami ng Tagaytay, tumama kami sa gas truck.
“Five kaming magkakasama. May isang namatay, best friend ko.”
While he only sustained minor injuries, David admitted that he was deeply affected by the sudden death of his best friend.
“More on psychological pain. But I’m okay now. Hindi naman ako depressed.”
It was also after that car accident when David decided to quit being a basketball varsity player.
“So nag-stop na ako. I guess, hindi na for me yung basketball.
“And na-realize ko rin na hindi ako makakapag-PBA. Hindi naman ako super galing na parang Kiefer Ravena na ipu-pursue ko yung basketball as a professional career.
“Hindi naman ako ganun katangkad. I’m only 5’11.
"So nag-decide ako mag-modeling and acting."
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had an exclusive interview with David after the presscon of Kapag Nahati Ang Puso, held in GMA Network Center in Quezon City back in July.
HAPPY WITH SHOWBIZ CAREER
A graduate of College of St. Benilde with a degree in Information System Major in Computer Application, David said he previously wanted to work for a corporate company.
"But hindi siya nag-work out since nag-artista na ako," David said.
How does he find showbiz so far?
David replied, “I’m overwhelmed. Kasi pag bago ka sa showbiz, big deal maging artista, e. Cool. Sa college, big deal.
“Pero like, now, for me para siyang basketball na kailangan mo i-work on.”
Aside from his supporting role in GMA-7’s ongoing daytime series Kapag Nahati Ang Puso, David also got a lead role via Regal Films’ Because I Love You opposite Shaira Diaz.
“I’m really happy with the progress, with the projects that I’m getting. Super passionate talaga ako sa lahat ng ginagawa ko.”
David was first discovered when he was hailed as Mr. Lucky Chinatown first-runner up in 2014.
His foray into showbiz was jumpstarted with his guest appearances in ABS-CBN’s Gandang Gabi Vice, Flordeliza, and Ipaglaban Mo.
Then he transferred to GMA-7 in 2016 and became an exclusive Kapuso talent.
His first supporting role for a full-length series was in the 2017 fantaserye Mulavin vs. Ravena.
