The Angeli Bayani-starrer Bwaya won the Grand Prize in the 15th Tokyo Filmex festival. Directed by Francis Xavier Pasion, Bwaya was able to beat 8 other entries in the festival that is committed to "the bright future of cinema.” Bwaya is a Cinemalaya 2014 entry that shows how a mother (played by Angeli) searched for her missing daughter who was attacked by a crocodile.
The Grand Prize jury citation reads: "With its sincere humanity, Crocodile invites us into a timeless universe where we explore the lives of these heartwarming people. The director‘s instinctive observational skills offer us a spiritual journey, making us realize that there are still unique worlds to explore. The film‘s strength lies in its honest and cohesive directorial style and the vivid expressiveness of its cast." This photo from the Facebook account of director Francis Xavier Pasion (second from left) shows him with line producer Sarah Pagcaliwagan, lead actress Angeli Bayani, as well as executive producers R.S. Francisco and Samuel Verzosa.
