Paolo Ballesteros, Die Beautiful nominated in Asia Pacific Screen Awards 2017

Paolo Ballesteros is one of the nominees in the Best Actor category of the 11th Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

The Filipino actor, who was cited for his performance in the indie film Die Beautiful, will compete with contenders from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, India, and Palestine.

Directed by Jun Lana, Die Beautiful is also competing for the APSA Cultural Diversity Award.

The other nominees are Centaur (Kyrgyzstan, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands), Dede (Georgia, Croatia, Netherlands, Qatar, United Kingdom), Honeygiver Among the Dogs (Munmo Tashi Khyidron, Bhutan), and Lady of the Lake (Loktak Lairembee, India).

This award aims "to promote diversity of cultural expression and raise awareness of the value of culture at local, national and international levels."

Pinoy writer-filmmaker Adolfo Alix Jr. is currently serving as a member of the APSA international jury.

Australian film editor Jill Bilcock is the jury head while the other members are Chinese actress He Saifei, Tokyo Film Festival Programmer Yoshi Yatabe and Kazakh writer, director and cinematographer Adilkhan Yerzhanov.

Nominations for the 11th edition of the awards spanned 41 films from 21 countries. The winners will be announced at the awarding ceremony to be held  on November 23, 2017 in Brisbane, Australia.

The Eat Bulaga! host was described in the Asia Pacific Screen Awards website as follows: "Paolo Ballesteros is a high-profile and much-loved actor, television host and comedian known for his impeccable impersonations and character portrayals.

"Since his breakthrough in the early 2000s, he has accumulated more than 35 credits across film and television, and has been one of the co-hosts of Philippine’s longtime noontime show Eat Bulaga! since 2001.

"Ballesteros has received more than 15 awards, including the Best Actor award from Tokyo International Film Festival, Kerala International Film Festival and the Metro Manila Film Festival. He is also known internationally for his makeup transformations, amassing more than four-million social media followers."

The jury is headed by acclaimed Australian film editor Jill Bilcock while the other members are Chinese actress He Saifei, Tokyo Film festival programmer Yoshi Yatabe and Kazakh writer-director and cinematographer Adilkhan Yerzhanov.
