Sa panayam ng GMA News Online, sinabi ni Briones, "The department is against child abuse, whether it is done by fellow children, more so by adults."
"My daughter is graduating from the Philippine Science High School next week.
"This is supposed to be a happy occasion, right? No such thing this year.
"This year, Philppine Science’ graduation is marred with scandal and such grievous injustices.
"Pisay is allowing 12 boys to graduate when they ought to be expelled at the very least—with criminal charges filed against them.
"What happened was their high school girlfriends (all Pisay students) had the bad sense of trusting these hoodlums with naked photos of themselves.
"When they broke up, these boys found each other (water seeking its own level) and shared these photos among themselves.
"What’s worse is some of them uploaded these images of their underage exes online.
"I followed this case closely because I wanted to make sure these boys got the fullest sanctions they could possibly get. At the very least TO NEVER BECOME PISAY GRADS.
"But I merely blinked and there it was—Philippine Science High School Board of Trustees rewarding these delinquents with a Pisay diploma—and with a mere slap on the wrist.
"For showing naked photos of girls who had the bad sense of trusting such untrustworthy human beings and then sharing it among themselves and then throwing it in cyberspace—where low lives like them will feast on these images—for doing all these, Philippine Science is rewarding them with a diploma from the country’s top science high school.
"And where they get to march side by side with their victims and their families.
"And as if to rub salt on their wounds, these boys have shown no remorse—and are, in fact, defiant and arrogant. (How can they not be when no one’s held them fully accountable?)
"And when the unfortunate decision of the Board of Trustees came out that effectively exonerated them, they went around GLOATING 'I’m gonna graduate.'
"So the school that taught my children precious much—what are you teaching our children now?
"#1: Actions you take have no consequences. #2: You can get away with murder. More so if your parents are powerful and arrogant. #3 And boys—take advantage of girls who trust you. That trust means nothing. Trade their naked photos the way you trade cards. #4: Girls are commodity. #5: And girls, you brought this upon yourself. It’s YOUR fault that you gave your photos.
"What is the matter with you? This is what we teach our children.
"And in a world where these kinds of crimes and misdemeanors are fast becoming the norm, we are going to reap a whirlwind sooner than later.
"My daughter is not one of these girls but even as I am grateful, it matters little to me.
"Those girls are my daughters. And I feel so diminished by the terrible injustice they have suffered in the hands of these offenders. And in the hands of the Philippine Science Board of Trustees."
