Marami ang naintriga sa Instagram post ni Joey de Leon dahil sa pahiwatig nito tungkol sa pagkandidato bilang bise presidente ng Pilipinas ng kanyang matalik na kaibigang si Senate President Tito Sotto.
Caption ni Joey sa larawan nila nina Tito at Vic sa kanyang Instagram post kagabi, June 29: “Nag-meeting TVJ kasama TV (Tony Jeny) pero kulang ng isang “V”.
"Baka yun pinag-meetingan. V for Vice-President ? From SP to VP? Hmmm well, Abangan…"
Kung may mga naintriga sa cryptic post ni Joey, meron din mga hindi nagulat dahil hindi inililihim ni Sotto ang plano nitong tumakbong bise-presidente ng bansa sa May 2022 elections.
Sa mensahe niya sa mga reporter noong June 7, 2021, sinabi ni Sotto na seryoso niyang pinag-iisipan ang pagtakbo sa eleksyon sa susunod na taon dahil sa iba’ ibang grupo at sektor na lumalapit sa kanila ni Senator Panfilo Lacson.
Pahayag niya, “If Senator Lacson decides to run for president, I will definitely be his running mate.
"I am not in the habit of saying that I will not run and then all of a sudden I will file my certificate of candidacy. Let the other politicians do that. Not in our party.”
Sa panayam naman ng CNN Philippines noong June 7, 2021, nagsalita si Sotto na wala itong nakikitang problema kung sakaling si President Rodrigo Duterte ang makalaban niya sa kanyang vice-presidential bid.
Matunog kasi ang usap-usapan na si Duterte ang magiging running mate ni Senator Bong Go, na tatakbo umanong presidente sa ilalim ng partidong PDP-Laban.
"I am offering myself and I will offer myself because I have this program that I want to do and I will do for the country which I know will be effective.
"Whoever offers himself to run, that’s fine with me. I have no problem with that," ani Sotto sa CNN Philippines.
