Mr. Gay World Philippines 2021 Joel Rey Carcasona: “People are expecting a lot from me and they’ve always wanted for a three-peat win, but the pressure helped me para mag-focus ako to achieve my goal to represent the country well.”

"On a roll" sa mga national beauty pageant ang mga Cebuana dahil mula sa Cebu sina Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez at Miss World Philippines 2021 Tracy Maureen Perez.

Taga-Cebu rin si Joel Rey Carcasona, ang reigning Mr. Gay World Philippines na kinatawan ng ating bansa sa 13th edition ng Mr. Gay World.

Nakatakdang mangyari ang virtual coronation ng Mr. Gay World 2021 sa Linggo, October 31 (2 a.m., Manila time).

“Naging positive ang effect sa akin na parehong taga-Cebu sina Beatrice at Tracy because their achievements boosted my morale. Proud ako dahil most of the national titleholders this year are from Cebu,” sabi ni Joel sa Cabinet Files.

Mas matindi ang pressure na nararamdaman ni Joel dahil Pilipino ang may hawak ng Mr. Gay World 2020 title, si Kodie Macayan na kapapanalo lang noong October 17, 2021.

Saad niya, “Sobrang pressure! The moment when Kodie was announced as Mr. Gay World 2020, I was so happy.

"But few minutes later, parang nag- worry ako for myself because I don’t want to break the momentum of our country winning the title.

“People are expecting a lot from me and they’ve always wanted for a three-peat win, but the pressure helped me para mag-focus ako to achieve my goal to represent the country well.”

Maiksi lamang ang panahon ng paghahanda ni Joel para sa Mr. Gay World 2021 dahil nanalo siya bilang Mr. Gay World Philippines noong August 2021, at sa October 31 na ang virtual competition na live mapapanood sa YouTube channel ng Mr. Gay World Organization.

Aniya, “I had a brief time to prepare lang because I won the national pageant in August then we shot our video segments in mid-week of September.

“May mga workshop naman for Q&A and pasarela, but I had to focus on my physique because I look like a twink on-screen according to the board of directors of the Mr. Gay World Philippines Organization.

“I was able to achieve the body type that I want and I’d say ito yung biggest challenge ko.

"I’ve had a lot of sacrifices, like I don’t eat in a buffet restaurant anymore," kuwento ng 28-year-old nurse.

Sagot ni Joel, “I’m an avid fan of beauty pageants talaga and representing the Philippines in the international arena is already an achievement.

“Whatever the result may be, win or lose, I would always be grateful for all of the support that I have been getting from my fellow Filipinos, LGBTQ and allies.”
