Ikalawang anibersaryo ng pagpanaw ni Eddie Garcia noong Hunyo 20, Linggo, kasabay ang pagdiriwang ng Father’s Day.
Bago pa sumapit ang araw na iyon ay nabalitaan ko nang magpupugay ang 23rd Far East Film Festival 2021 (FEFF) kay Manoy (taguri kay Eddie Garcia) sa Hunyo 24-Hulyo 2 sa Udine, Italy.
Ipalalabas sa FEFF ang mga pelikula ni Manoy bilang special tribute sa pumanaw na legendary actor.
"The most exciting part which we wanted to do for long time is this special tribute to Eddie Garcia, who I had the honor to meet in person in Manila in 2018 when I was invited to be part of the jury in Metro Manila Film Festival,” pahayag ng artistic director ng FEFF na si Sabrina Batacetti.
Nakapanayam si Sabrina sa pa-virtual mediacon ng FDCP nitong Hunyo 21, Lunes ng hapon, via Zoom.
Patuloy ni Sabrina: "And it was amazing because for the first time in my life, I could meet Eddie Garcia, which for me is a kind of legend, still a legend.
"So, from that time, we really wanted to do something special dedicated to him, but… a lot of things happened in the middle.
"But now, we are ready to do it. And I think, it is something that nobody has done before. And we are very honored to be the first."
Pinakaaabangan daw ni Sabrina na mapaood ang Pagdating Sa Dulo, ang pelikula ni Eddie na ang direktor ay si Ishmael Bernal.
Limang pelikula ni Manoy ang tampok sa Retrospective Section na "Eddie Garcia: Life as a Film Epic."
Ang mga ito ay ang Pagdating sa Dulo aka At The Top (1971, debut film ni Direk Ishmael Bernal), Bwakaw (2012, directed by Jun Robles Lana), Rainbow’s Sunset (2018, directed by Joel Lamangan), Anino (2000, short film ni Raymond Red), at Sinasamba Kita (1982, directed by Eddie Garcia).
Bading ang karakter ni Manoy sa Bwakaw at Rainbow’s Sunset—swak sa pagdiriwang ng Gay Pride.
Pahayag pa ni Sabrina, “Bwakaw is a movie that really tells a lot about Eddie Garcia's acting.
"And in that movie, his performance is superb and such a great character. It was also a great movie, so we decided to go for that.
"And for the other ones, we also wanted to tell about Eddie Garcia when he was younger, but [it] was difficult to find this piece.
"That’s why it was very important the help we got from Chairman Liza Diño for this because it was absolutely important to collect the movies..."
Nais sana ng FEFF na mas maraming pelikula ni Manoy ang itanghal, ngunit may technical problem pa ang mga ito, gaya ng Tubog sa Ginto (1971, directed by Lino Brocka) at Atsay (1978, directed by Eddie Garcia).
Nakausap ko ngayong Hunyo 22, Martes, si Congresswoman Nina Taduran na isa sa co-authors sa Eddie Garcia Bill.
Last year pa raw nila naisumite sa Senado ang naturang bill, pati ang Media Welfare bill, pero hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa raw nadidinig sa senado.
Inaasahan nga raw nilang maisasabatas na ito bago matapos ang taong ito.
Sa panahon ng pandemya ay malaking tulong daw talaga sa film workers itong Eddie Garcia Bill.
A legacy of artistry and professionalism, malaking tulong ang Eddie Garcia Bill para sa mga taga-industriya natin.
Naglalayon itong magbigay ng proteksyon at benepisyo—na parang yung iba’y naisasagawa na ngayong pandemya.
At least with his death, marami tayong natutunan at may kaakibat na pagbabago sa mga kalakaran sa ating industriya.

Ang 23rd FEFF na in-organize ng Centro Espressioni Cinematografiche ay magpapalabas ng 63 pelikula mula sa mga bansang South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Macau, Myanmar, at Pilipinas.
Hybrid ang porma ng FEFF ngayong taon—online at in-person ang pagpapalabas ng mga pelikula.
Dalawang pelikulang Pinoy ang kalahok sa Competition Section—ang Fan Girl (MMFF 2020, 11th film directed by Antoinette Jadaone), at Anak Ng Macho Dancer (2021, directed by Joel Lamangan).
Buhay pa sa alaala ni Direk Antoinette ang unang pagkakataong nakatrabaho niya si Eddie.
Natatawang paggunita ni Direk Antoinette: "I first worked with Tito Eddie in GMA when I was a production assistant, so I was the one in charge of taking him from the stand-by area to the set.
"And before his take, he would always ask me questions about the scenes in the script. And I always make sure that I know the script by heart.
"Because he would always make sure that the production assistant knows what the story is all about, and not just any other assistant walking here and there."
Nagpamalas daw talaga si Eddie ng talento, propesyonalismo, at pagmamahal sa trabaho.
Dagdag ng premyadong direktor: "Tito Eddie was always very early. If his call time was 7:00 a.m., he would be there at 5:30 a.m.
"And he was there with just his driver, with no assistant, no make-up artist. He was just there with his bag, and his script.
"And his script was highlighted with all his lines. He was a professional through and through.
"And so when we worked with him in Heaven’s Waiting, in Hintayan ng Langit, I was really a fan girl.
"We were all fangirling over a legendary acting before our eyes, and we were so grateful that we were able to work with him before he passed on."
