Felicia “Feli” Hung Atienza isn’t your typical style icon and celebrity wife.
Known to many as the loving wife of showbiz personality and Kapamilya-turned-Kapuso weatherman Kim Atienza, Feli actually made a name for herself as a former finance extraordinaire. She graduated cum laude from Wharton, with a dual major in Finance and Multinational Management.
Get to know Feli Atienza, the real boss lady who is also a passionate educator, environmentalist, and fitness enthusiast.
STARTING HER OWN SCHOOL
The former Taiwanese-Filipino stockbroker has a long list of professional credentials under her belt.
But what stands out in her colorful career was her decision to put up the Chinese International School Manila (CISM).
Located in McKinley Hill, Taguig City, CISM is the first international school of its kind in the country.
It all started when she was looking for a school for her firstborn Jose.
In a 2018 interview with NoliSoli, Feli shared, “When Jose turned two, I thought to myself that I want to send him to an international school, but an international school that taught him Mandarin from the nursery level.
"I was surprised that no such school existed in the Philippines."
That’s when she thought she would have to start her own.
After visiting schools all over the world, conducting rigorous research, and assessing the different educational systems that would be relevant to the generations’ varying needs, Feli finally opened the doors of CISM in August 2007.
This international school distinguishes itself by offering a mandatory Mandarin language programme at the nursery level. It provides its students with a dynamic and rigorous K-12 international curriculum, giving them a unique university preparatory education.
Years later, in May 2019, she acquired Domuschola International School in Pasig, Metro Manila.
According to their respective websites, both international schools follow the US Common Core State Standards and are accredited to deliver the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
Their educational models focus on student engagement and collaboration, community outreach, and transdisciplinary learning that aim to hone its students into open-minded thinkers, communicators, and risk-takers.
Her husband Kim is also among the Board of Directors, with a designation as the Treasurer for both institutions.
In a 2020 interview with Philippine Tatler, Feli said, "Heading these schools has allowed me to embark on an immensely rewarding entrepreneurial journey.
"While mapping the educational ecosystem for our institutions, I am also able to engage and learn from our stakeholders, educators, and, most especially, our students.”
Aside from being an educator, Feli has a love for animals and pets. She shares this love with her husband, and it seems to run in their family’s genes.
She is the president of the Philippine Eagle Foundation, a 34-year-old private institution.
According to its official website, the Foundation is firmly committed to ensuring the survival of the Philippine Eagle, the country’s national bird, and the sustainable use of our forest resources for future generations to enjoy.
Meanwhile, its Research and Conservation team “is organized to operate in three areas: eagle research, forest restoration and protection, and culture-based programs to achieve not only the species’ survival in the wild but also a healthy forest that communities will benefit from.”
When asked how many pets their family has, Feli quipped in her past interview, "At this point, my only gauge would be the vet and animal food bills! It can be complex keeping up with the different needs. On the subject of food alone, there is much to manage."
MORE THAN ANYTHING, SHE IS A HOMEMAKER
No matter how busy Feli is with her career and social life, nothing beats the importance of family.
As a mom to their three children, she describes herself as “very non-tiger.”
"What I really try my best to zero in on is teaching them to work hard, pursue their passions, and lead meaningful lives.
"I also emphasize the importance of saying sorry because it doesn’t cost anything."
Pre-pandemic, the family enjoyed going on adventure-centric trips, with Machu Picchu, the Amazon, and the North Pole as their favorite destinations.
Africa also holds a special place in Feli’s heart.
Its vast terrain, free-roaming animals, and unpredictable wilderness make the continent magical to her.
"When you’re in Africa, you would realize that nothing else matters. It’s really survival."
Despite their busy schedules, Felicia and Kim make it a point to set aside time to go on a weekly date night.
STRONG IS THE NEW SEXY
Browsing through her Instagram account, one would think that Feli was born to become an athlete.
She enjoys having an active lifestyle, an interest she greatly shares with her husband.
Her mantra: Make it your goal weight to feel strong, confident, and healthy!
In another interview, she narrated, “I was recruited to join the varsity volleyball team at UPenn [University of Pennsylvania] and enjoyed swimming leisurely laps at the pool.”
She is into yoga, running, Pilates, and boxing. In recent years, she has even stepped up her gym routine.
“Right before I turned 40, I added strength and conditioning to my exercise regimen,” she added.
