Sherilyn Reyes talks about son Paoie's passion for wakeboarding

Sky's the limit for Sherilyn's son, Paoie, as far as his wakeboarding sport is concerned.

Paoie will head once again to Camarines Sur on May 29 to compete. The 10-year-old wakeboarder will also join the Perpetual Cup in June at the Lago de Oro in Batangas.

Actress-host Sherilyn Reyes was filled with pride as she talked about her 10-year-old son, Paoie, a budding wakeboarder.

(Wakeboarding is a water sport which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of a body of water behind a boar or cable system.)

"He started December 2007," recalled Sherlyn to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) via e-mail, "magkakasabay kami."

What started as a family activity turned into a passion for Paoie. The thriving water sport lit a fire in the young boy's curiousity, and so his parents gave him a complete set of gear as Christmas present.

Paoie really took the sport seriously. "He joined three competitions. Naka 2nd place siya dun sa dalawa," the Moms host proudly mentioned.

Just recently, Paoie competed in the World Wakeboard Championship held at the Camsur Watersports Complex or CWC in Camarines Sur.

"He did well, though iba rin talaga yung galing ng mga nanalo," said Sherilyn, who remains optimistic that her son will someday clinch a title in the prestigious World Wakeboarding Championship.

It's quite a dangerous and expensive sport, but the enthusiasm and feats of Paoie make it all worthwhile for mom Shey (Sherilyn's nickname) and dad Chris Tan.

"Lahat ng free time, halos nasa Lago De oro kami for his training. We could be somewhere else enjoying or resting, or Quirsten [Paoie's brother] can be doing something else as well, but the whole family showed support by being with him.

"Na-gain niya ang respect ng older wakeboarders because magaling siya talaga. And lahat, proud sa kanya at suportado siya. We always tell him how big we feel every time people praise him.

"Si Quirsten is also into it na, medyo marunong na rin but Chris wants him to excel in another sport. Ayaw niyang mag-compete yung magkapatid. Gusto niya magsuportahan silang dalawa and para kanya-kanya sila ng niche."

Shey beamed, "Walang pinakamasarap sa tanong ng mga tao na, 'Ano'ng feeling bilang mga magulang ng susunod na wakeboard superstar?'"
