The country’s top rock band, Parokya Ni Edgar, appears in “The Rock ’N’ Roll Issue” of Top Gear, the Philippines’ leading car magazine. The issue, which tackles the close relationship between cars and rock music, hits newsstands on May 1st.
In this issue, Parokya members Chito Miranda (vocals), Gab Chee Kee (rhythm guitar), Buwi Meneses (bass guitar), Darius Semaña (lead guitar) and Dindin Moreno (drums) employ the services of a new roadie-cum-driver in the person of Dinzo Tabamo, Top Gear’s staff writer. The sixth Parokya member, Vinci Montaner, was out of town during the pictorial.
In the story, Tabamo fetches the band members from their respective homes using a Ford E-150 van and actually drives them to their gig. The article then revolves around the writer’s actual experience on the road with the band. You’ll be surprised to know what the band members do and talk about inside the van to pass the time during the trip.
Also in this Top Gear issue is an exclusive interview with The Dawn’s Jett Pangan, who is a certified car nut and fan of European automotive brands. Pangan shares how he used to work in a car dealership even when he was already a rock star.
Finally, the Top Gear staff also embarks on an unusual road trip: the Eraserheads’ The Final Set concert! Driving the 2009 Ford Expedition, the car journalists leave the Summit Media offices and head for the Mall of Asia open grounds to witness the historic rock-and-roll event.
Top Gear magazine is available for just P150 at leading newsstands, bookshops, convenience stores, and fuel stations.
