Credit model-actress Joyce So's strict mother for instilling in her the value of observing a proper diet regimen years before its various methods and alternatives were popularized via mainstream media.
"Since bata pa kami we're not allowed to drink soft drinks, coffee and even tea. Sa house kasi ang iniinom lang namin, water and fresh juices," Joyce told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last October 16 at the launching of The Bar's new apple vodka held at the Eastwood Mall in Libis, Quezon City.
Joyce was chosen by the said liquor brand, along with Wendy Valdez, Jaymee Joaquin, Jay-R Siaboc and John James Uy, as its new endorsers to complement original image models Angelica Panganiban and Jake Cuenca.
Joyce's imposed early regimen reaped great dividends in the long run as Joyce went on to win the 2006 Mossimo Bikini Summit contest.
As expected, Joyce's triumph paved the way for her to get noticed. It didn't take long before show business started knocking on her door. Her foray in the entertainment industry brought drastic changes in Joyce's routine and lifestyle.
Despite the irregular hours and unbalanced work schedule, allotting enough spare time for exercising is still a priority for Joyce, who will act alongside Judy Ann Santos and Derek Ramsay in an upcoming ABS-CBN series to be launched reportedly early next year.
"Feeling ko, 'yon lang yung pinaka-healthy [doing exercise] to lose weight. Hindi naman okay na mag-pills kasi baka may side effects," she rationalized over dinner.
As for her flawless skin, Joyce revealed that she uses a cleanser to remove facial dirt accumulated after a long day before applying toner, then "last step na 'yong moisturizer."
