Have you planned for your Christmas dinner yet?
Don't fret if you haven't because Jenni Epperson is here to help.
In her first book Fashion + Food: Entertaining At Home In Style, the multi-tasking fashion celebrity shares her personal collection of recipes and styling tips for every occasion.
From an intimate Sunday breakfast with the family to dinner parties with friends, there is one chapter dedicated for every home's entertaining need.
It will also teach its readers in making every corner of their homes fabulous—from the table to the food, including the host of the occasion.
CHRISTMAS PREPARATIONS. The author mentions the three Cs of Christmas decorating: Christmas tree, carolers, and cookies.
Put the Christmas tree on top of the priority list.
It is the "emblem of the season," as Jenni writes, that gets the holiday spirit flowing in the household.
As it sits in your living room for the entire family to see, it helps everyone to be inspired and get creative with their own decorating ideas.
Second, when you decorate, think about the carolers and the visitors as well.
"Decorate from the outside in," says the blogger.
Put a simple wreath on the front door to give guests the feeling that they are welcome in your home.
A jar of cookies, on the other hand, is a metaphor for "banking on your senses."
She underlines, there's no need to ruin your budget with expensive décor. Just recycle existing items and give them a different look.
Example: Put old Christmas tree balls on a clear crystal plate. Place a cinnamon-scented candle in the middle and use the whole thing as a centerpiece. Light up the candle to give the air a warm, Christmassy aroma.
NOCHE BUENA. For dinner, Jenni suggests serving up a classic meal.
Go with recipes that are art of the family's tradition.
But if you're after adventure, give your recipes that holiday feel.
Example: The ingredients and presentation of Jenni's Christmas Pasta recipe are inspired by the season's elements. The hints of black and green olives against the red tomato sauce look like Christmas balls in a sea of red silk ribbon, while the fresh basil leaves on top of the plate serve as holiday garlands.
FASHION. So as not to look overdressed, color and cut play important roles. Remember, it's Christmas dinner, and not a club party.
Jenni suggests wearing a jewel-toned dress to go along with the festive mood.
Ruby red or emerald green are two shades you can try. Remember to find the perfect color that matches your skin tone.
Keep shoes and accessories simple as well, and just let your inner glow shine through.
