Barely a month into 2010 and singer-actor Guji Lorenzana is strumming to not just one but several different tunes. The Fil-Am is already juggling his time between making movies, recording a new album, rehearsing for a play and being a radio jock.
After wrapping up shooting for the Kim Chiu-Gerald Anderson starrer Paano Na Kaya, he recently sat down with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) for a candid chat. He revealed why he juggles so many activities at the same time, how he keeps going back to his musical roots, and what exactly is the real score between him and his Precious Hearts Romances love team partner Kaye Abad.
In Paano Na Kaya, Guji takes on a supporting role. "I play the boyfriend of Zsa Zsa Padilla, who is a cougar in the movie. It is a small part but the opportunity to work with Zsa Zsa is definitely a plus in my roster of leading ladies."
It was a role that the people of Star Cinema felt would be tailor-made for him. "What I heard was that Star Cinema really wanted me to be paired with Zsa Zsa, I said, Okay, I will do it. In fact, Star Magic didn't want me to take the part because they felt that it might not do me any good to be exposed with such a small role coming from the afternoon soap Precious Hearts Romances' Somewhere In My Heart. But they really wanted me to be paired with Zsa Zsa and no one else, which for me is an honor, so I did it," he enthused.
Paano Na Kaya will open in cinemas starting January 27, 2010. (CLICK HERE to read more about this movie)
In real life does he think he would go out with a much older woman? "I would, because now age is nothing but a number. The world is so small and everyone gets along because of the Internet and the way people are exposed to various things. It's a different time and I don't think people talk about age anymore," he candidly answered.
Even if he wasn't able to spend that much time with the Paano Na Kaya cast, Guji instantly bonded with fellow Fil-Am Gerald Anderson. "Gerald and I got along, both being Amboys. We talked about how he was able to go home to Missouri for Christmas, Gerald's buying a trampoline, Amboy stuff," said Guji with a laugh.
CHANGES IN VOIZBOYS. This 2010, Guji is planning to focus more on his singing career, which was what brought him to the Philippines in the first place.
He explains, "VOIZboys [the boy band which he is a part of along with Jay-r Siaboc, Ronnie Liang and Nico Antonio] will be welcoming our newest member ex-Pinoy Big Brother Double Up housemate Tom Rodriguez. We will be relaunched in ASAP XV on January 24," he shared.
VOIZboys is preparing to launch an album, a project that Guji is very excited about. "We are working with some really good producers like Vehnee Saturno, and I was also able to submit a couple of songs. VOIZboys is a boy band but if you look at the boy bands of today like Il Divo they're not really considered a boy band, but more like singers of different styles coming together. Even if VOIZboys is a group, I believe that we will be able to shine on our own individually, too," he explained.
BUDDING THESPIAN. Guji is also going back to his first love—theater—with a leading role in the local production of the Broadway musical Legally Blonde, which will open this June. "I'm excited because it's a Star Magic cast. As of now the people who are included are Nikki Gil as Elle Woods and Nyoy Volante."
Guji was last seen in Believe the Pop Musical, which was staged at the Music Museum last October.
So, if theater is his first love, how would he rank his Precious Hearts Romances' co-star Kaye Abad? Are they making beautiful music together off screen?
He pointed out: "We are really good friends, and she knows I like her and she knows that I am trying. We're not rushing things; there is so much intriga, so much past that is still in the present, so we are trying to keep things as slow as we can. There are no upcoming projects yet for the two of us, but I am looking forward to hopefully working with her again."
Guji also happens to be a DJ duties on Mellow Touch 94.7. He is on air every Saturday and Sunday from 5 pm - 8 pm.
Why does he feel the need to be busy all the time? "I can't be choosy with my projects as I am still making a name for myself," says Guji.
