Like good ol' rock n' roll, The Bloomfields band—composed of Rocky Collado, Lakan Hila, Louie Poco, and Dino Pascual—is not about to fade away despite the departure of two of its members. The band is currently preparing to release a new album composed of original materials tentatively set for early next year.

The defection of two of its members late last year failed to pull the plug on The Bloomfields.

"Actually the chemistry is a lot, lot better now and we work much better together," drummer Rocky Collado candidly revealed in a conversation with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last October 20 at Eastwood City Central Plaza in Libis, Quezon City. Bassist-vocalist Louie Poco pitched in, "Iba 'yong samahan ngayon kasi parang mas na-emphasize 'yong friendship. Walang leader and nobody is above anyone else. So, it's all pantay kaming apat and we're doing different things in the band but in equal capacity kaya mas okay siya."

THE SPLIT. Rocky and Louie were referring to the aftermath following the departure of brothers Jay Jay and Pepe Lozano from the band to form a new group. (CLICK HERE to read related article.)

Striking the right balance between writing original tunes and dishing out covers forced the members to part ways, explained guitarist Lakan Hila.

"They wanted to pursue a different path. Kami kasi we've always wanted to do this original thing and if we had stayed together, neither of us would accomplish anything because hindi kami nagtutugma."

Although Jay Jay and Pepe formally resigned from the group, Rocky acknowledged that the split was not an easy process.

"The breakup was mutual because they wanted to leave din talaga. I guess parang kami rin we wanted something different and they wanted something different.

"We're not saying naman that it's a perfect breakup, but right now we're doing well and they're doing well, so masaya na kami pareho siguro," assumed the singing drummer.

REBIRTH. The remaining three members added new member Dino Pascual to the group. Touted as The Bloomfields' resident balladeer, Dino's entry allows the group to further widen their range and repertoire beyond the high-energy numbers.

The Bloomfields is currently experiencing a rebirth, thanks mainly to the group's infectious original materials, mixed with timeless rock n' roll tunes and a growing fan base that has developed from live gigs around the Metro.

NOOD KA MUNA!

A new album is still in the works and the band is eager to release it early next year for the waiting fans and those who are curious to hear the group's new output.

The event at Eastwood City was organized to gather fans together and also to exhibit a "rockumentary" featuring the band's exciting journey back to the music scene.

"It's the start of something that we've always wanted to do," said Rocky. "We've always wanted to release our own material, so maglalabas na kami ngayon. Itong rockumentary, parang prelude lang and we just wanted people to know that we're working on it."
