Bong Ramos reacts to Cinemalaya's statement denying occurence of plagiarism

"Mas maniniwala ako na may ngipin ang ating batas pagdating sa usapin na 'to," says director Alejandro "Bong" Ramos (in photo) regarding the incidence of plagiarism that was supposedly done by director Gil Portes.
Kamakailan lang ay naging isyu sa mundo ng local independent cinema ang sinasabing pagtutunggali ng dalawang direktor: ang beteranong direktor na si Gil Portes, at ang indie film director na si Alejandro "Bong" Ramos (nagdirek ng Haw Ang, Pipo: Ang Batang Pro, Butas, Big Night, Halik Sa Tubig).
Ito ay may kinalaman umano sa pagkakahawig ng konsepto o "pangongopya" daw ni Portes ng kanyang Two Funerals sa orihinal na materyal ni Ramos na Biyaheng Norte. (CLICK HERE for related story) Sa 6th edition ng Cinemalaya, nagwagi si Portes bilang best director at si Eric Ramos bilang best screenplay para sa pelikulang Two Funerals.
Ayon kay Bong Ramos, isa si Direk Gil Portes sa screening committee sa Cinemalaya 2008, kunsaan isinumite nito ang kanyang Biyaheng Langit script, na nakapasok sa Top 20 shortlist sa full length film category ng nasabing Pinoy indie film festival. Bukod kay Direk Gil, kabilang sa naturang screening committee sina Mark Meily, Robbie Tan, Emily Abrera at ang yumaong Johnny Delgado.
Nailathala na dito sa Philippine Entertainment Portal ang kuwento ng dalawang panig. Pero kamakailan, may karagdagang reaksiyon o pahayag si Direk Bong Ramos na ipinadala nito sa PEP.
Kaugnay pa rin sa nasabing isyu, pinaparating ni Bong sa publiko na malinis ang kanyang saloobin, ayaw na sana niyangpatulan pa ang isyu, ngunit para sa ikalilinaw ng lahat, pinaninindigan daw niya ang kanyang kuwento. Minabuti ni Bong na magsalitang muli kahit na naglabas na ng official statement ang Cinemalaya na wala silang nakitang "copyright infringement." (CLICK HERE to read related article)
Narito ang mga pahayag ni Direk Bong Ramos na kanyang ipinadala sa pamamagitan ng e-mail:
"Iginagalang ko ang official statement na inilabas ng Cinemalaya. Opinyon nila 'yun, pero hindi naman matatapos dito ang usapin ng "plagiarism" na ikaakusa ko kay Gil Portes. Mas maniniwala ako na may ngipin ang ating batas pagdating sa usapin na 'to. Iniipon pa namin ang aming mga ebidensiya, at pinag-aaralang maige ang susunod naming hakbang. Hindi naman ako nawawalan ng pag-asa na mananaig ang tama at katotohanan sa ipinaglalaban ko.
"Para lang sa kaalaman ng iba, hindi ako magkakaroon ng malisya na nakopya ang "konsepto" ng Biyaheng Norte kundi ako kinausap ni Gil Portes at nagpakita siya ng interest sa skrip. Naniniwaala akong nabasa niya ng buo ang skrip, pinag-aralan, at binusisi, dahil isa siya sa miyembro ng screeening committee ng Cinemalaya 2008. Hindi ko sisirain ang aking integridad para pagbinatangan lang siya at manggulo. Salamat sa inyong suporta."
