The Shake, Rattle, and Roll 8 cast members present in the premiere include (clockwise from left) Ehra Madrigal, director Rahyan Carlos, Manilyn Reynes, Cass Ponti, IC Mendoza, Jolina Rey, and Quentin Alianza.
The premiere night of Shake, Rattle and Roll 8 was well attended by its cast members: Sheryl Cruz, Manilyn Reynes, Keempee de Leon, Bearwin Meily, Keanna Reeves, and Nash Aguas.
Also present during the premiere were Nene Tamayo, Joseph Bitangcol, Ehra Madrigal, Cass Ponti, IC Mendoza, Janus del Prado, Robert Seña, and Sergio Garcia.
The event took place last December 19 at SM Megamall Cinema 10.
This is the fourth Shake, Rattle and Roll movie for Manilyn who is in the "LRT-2" episode. The actress appeared in Shake, Rattle and Roll 2, 4 and 5.
In a PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) interview, she talked about the changes of the Regal Entertainment's horror franchise through the years.
Manilyn said, "Unang-una, first time kong mag-play na merong son which makes it a bit harder kasi you have to protect him. Iwasang madapa, 'di baleng ikaw ang madapa. 'Di ka lang naman umaarte diyan e. I feel na meron din akong responsibilidad dahil bata 'yan e.
"Ito yung masasabi kong pagod na pagod ako kasi I was wearing heels the whole time. Ang sakit ng ulo mo after each take dahil dun sa energy na ibinubuhos mo. You have to register fear. 'Pag napagod ka, hindi mo naman feel that right away e, but afterwards," she added
Shake, Rattle & Roll first-timer Keempee de Leon, who plays Cesar in the "LRT-2" episode, described his role in the movie: "Technician ako sa isang call center na ex-boyfriend ni Manilyn—high school hanggang college. Nag-separate ways kami. Accidentally, nagkita kami sa LRT. Dun na nag-start lahat ng story.
"Dito sa Shake, Rattle & Roll, I play the role of a 39-year-old so I had to gain weight. Mahaba ‘yung buhok ko. Medyo hati ‘yung buhok, tatay-looking. Nagpataba ako sa movie. Medyo nahihirapan akong magpapayat nang konti," he said smiling.
Sheryl, meanwhile, told PEP how she was able to relate to her role as a mother in the movie's second episode, "Yaya."
"I'm also happy na nabigay sa akin itong Shake, Rattle and Roll project because iba na naman yung nakitang side ko ng tao. It's more similar to the state that I'm in right now. Nash [Aguas, who plays her son] is eight years old and my daughter is five years old. May similarity. Tama yung role para sa akin."
With Sheryl in the second episode is Pinoy Big Brother winner Nene Tamayo, who was so overwhelmed with the project.
The soft-spoken Nene said, "Yung privilege ko na makilala ko si Ms. Sheryl Cruz, si Ms. Manilyn...Dati pinapanood ko lang sila, ngayon kasama ko na sila. Sobrang happy ako na nakasama ako sa movie. Natutuwa ako kasi institusyon na ‘yang Shake, Rattle & Roll. Fulfilled..."
Nene also talked about the challenge of her role: "‘Yung batang inaalagaan ko dito, si Benjo, siya si Nash [Aguas]. Isa akong praning na yaya na unlike sa character ko in real life. Dito tumitili ako, sumisigaw, [at] matatakutin. Hindi ako marunong tumili kaya nga yung driver ko, sinabi ko ‘Sumigaw ka nga, gusto kong marinig kung paano ka tumili.'"
Funny man Bearwin Meily did his usual comic antics in "13th Floor," the first episode of the eight installment of the horror franchise. He said, "Ako si Sonny. Ako ang events party organizer. Panibago... Parang mayaman ang dating ko dito. 'Di tayo iskwater dito. Pinag-aaralan mo din kung meron kang character na pagkukunan, paghuhugutan. Kumukuha ako ng mga karakter na babagay din sa role."
Sheryl didn't fail to give credit to all the people behind Shake, Rattle & Roll 8.
She said, "Si Direk Topel Lee and his whole crew, mula sa mga cinematographer, sa mga staff, they're very nice, [and] professional. They're very easy to work with. Hanggang doon sa mga artista na kasama ko. We're all working together to make a good project.
"I'm happy for all the directors. Iba-iba kasi yung pagpe-present nila nung story. Yun ang kagandahan sa mga young bloods, iba-iba talaga yung mind. Iba-iba yung attack nila sa story. Iba-iba yung nakikita ng tao. Alam nila yung magugustuhan ng tao."
When asked on how the movie will fare in the festival, Nene said, "Sa tingin ko magki-click pa rin kasi umabot ng eight—lucky number. Naniniwala ako na magsa-succeed siya. Napatunayan na niya for seven parts na naging successful. At hindi magkakaroon ng part eight kung hindi maganda yung mga nauna."
She also added, "Habang gumagawa ka, habang patagal nang patagal, dapat mas paganda nang paganda at mas nakaka-excite. Sa napapansin ko, maraming tao yung gusto yung takutan. Hindi siya purely horror, meron siyang comedy, may halong love story, may halong iyakan--kumpleto siya."
