Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina candidly narrated little known facts about the daring Angel Locsin-John Lloyd Cruz starrer, Unofficially Yours.

In the movie, Angel plays Ces, a reporter who trains a newbie writer named Mackie (John Lloyd). From the start, Ces makes it clear that she just wants to have sex with no strings attached but Mackie still hopes that they can have a formal relationship.

Given its mature topic, Direk Cathy says that she was unsure how Filipino viewers would react to this movie.

"Kanina tensiyon na tensiyon kami kasi iniisip naming kung paano kaya magre-react ang mga tao. But of course, these are fans of John Lloyd and Angel. Mas inaabangan ko ang reaction ng mga tao [sa opening day]. Hindi ko alam how they will accept the project."

How did she convince Angel and John Lloyd to do these daring scenes showing how two officemates can engage in casual sex even though they are not in a relationship?

"Alam nila ang kuwento, e, so alam nilang kailangan ko yun. Kailangan ko lang i-explain kung anong kailangan ko at kung paano naming ipapakita. They trusted me.

"Basta ang usapan namin, pag ayaw n'yo sabihin n'yo sa akin so I can adjust."

Was there a time when John Lloyd and Angel expressed that they were uncomfortable shooting a particular scene?

"May isa...May isang sinabi ni Angel na 'ayaw ko ito pero gagawin ko para sa 'yo,'" Direk Cathy admitted. "Ito yung wild sex scene, yung binabato-bati niya si John Lloyd. Nasa ibabaw siya nun, medyo marami yun. Medyo na-trim lang kasi ayaw namin magkaproblema sa censors.

"Star Cinema na ang nag-trim [ng scenes]."

The blockbuster director behind successful films such as A Very Special Love revealed that some of the cheesy lines in the movie were even supplied by John Lloyd and Angel themselves.

"Maraming lines galing kina Angel at John Lloyd. It's a collaboration. Tinatanong ko sila and then it comes out. Halimbawa, yung [office scene] kunsaan sinabi ni Ces, 'tadyakan kita diyan, e.' Nasa script, sasabihin ni Mackie, 'mahalin kita diyan, e.' Yung adlib ni Angel, 'siraulo ka Mackie.' Sumagot si John Lloyd, 'siraulo ako sa 'yo.' Tapos hindi ako nag-cut pa kasi totoong namumula si Angel, hanggang tenga! Kaya sinabi ni John Lloyd, 'namumula ka!' Wala sa script yun."


During the latter part of the movie, Angel and John Lloyd will showcase their singing skills. The two stars told Direk Cathy that they were hesitant to do so. The director recalled her conversation with the two lead stars.

"Alam n'yo hindi naman ito pagandahan ng boses. Depende sa nararamdaman mo...Sabi ni Angel, 'Si Sarah Geronimo na lang dito, Direk!' But I told her, I don't need a singer. Ang kailangan ko si Ces at si Mackie na kinakanta kung ano ang nararamdaman nila. Sabi ko naman kay John Lloyd, 'tao ka lang na nagmamahal, gagawin mo kahit na ano."


According to Star Cinema AdProm director Roxy Liquigan, Unofficially Yours was able to earn P18.5 million during its opening day last February 15, 2012.

In comparison, Star Cinema's adult movie, No Other Woman, reportedly grossed P15 million during its opening day.

Unofficially Yours is graded B by the Cinema Evaluation Board and rated PG-13 by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.
