Pure Pinoy talent will be celebrated and honored in the third edition of the MYX Music Awards. MYX, the music channel of ABS-CBN, will be holding the third edition of its annual music awards on March 26 at the Meralco Theater.
The local music scene is a very challenging and competitive environment. With hundreds of performers and bands wanting to be part of the industry, only a few are able to survive the challenges of breaking into the mainstream and make a name for themselves.
With this in mind, the upcoming MYX Music Awards 2008 takes pride in honoring local Filipino artists and giving them due credit, especially those who deserve to be recognized. With this year's theme of "Celebrating the biggest artists and hits in Pinoy music," MYX hopes to place the spotlight on Filipino artists who have excelled in their various categories.
Most bands nominated for the MYX awards are excited about being nominated in their respective categories. Callalily, a band made up of Kean Cipriano (vocals), Tatsi Jamnague (guitar), Alden Acosta (guitar), Aaron Ricafrente (bass) and Lem Belaro (drums) already has a big fan base but their humility shows when they say: "Cliché na yung masaya pero masaya talaga. Flattering yun di ba. Feels good na kasama mo yung paboritong mong mga artist sa stage as nominees, kasama mo si Bamboo. Honor ‘yon para sa amin."
Silent Sanctuary, a unique band composed of Anjo (cello), Chino (violin), Jett (viola), Sarkie (lead vocals and guitar), Paolo (bass), and Allen (drums), is nominated for Favorite New Artist and Favorite Song. The group's representative says how grateful and pleased they are to be part of the music awards by saying, "Siyempre dati noon pinapangarap lang namin na makasama sa mga banda na ma-nominate. Siyempre sobrang saya namin na sa dami ng banda sa Pilipinas, isa kami sa mga na-nominate. Sobrang saya."
Nominated as Favorite New Artist, Julianne says, "Music is a language that everybody speaks but you don't have to know how to sing or play the instrument or know anything. As long as you like what you hear, as long as you understand what you hear, it penetrates you in some way. You're speaking the language. It's not verbal. It's an emotional language. May music naman na walang lyrics, di ba, pero inspirational. It's an experience."
Amidst all the fun, the recognition and the influence of musicians on the public—three-piece band Reklamo, LC de Leon (vocals and guitar), Mig Dayanghirang (bass), and Ciro de Leon (drums), still consider themselves as underdogs in the industry. They strongly believe in the power and talent of Filipino artists.
The band passionately shares their dream and goal through this simple, yet meaningful message to all musicians, "There is real music here. We just can't go abroad and market ourselves all the time to our kababayans abroad. We have to be recognized as a country that has good music. [Our country] has one of the best music industries in Asia. Maybe the whole world if we just package ourselves right."
From having simple dreams and aspirations, these bands are making their mark in the music industry of the Philippines.
