ABS-CBN's musical-variety show ASAP '08 recognized Filipino artists whose albums reached the Gold status from October 2007 to November 2008. The Kapamilya variety show gave out this year's 24K Gold Awards yesterday, December 14.

Star Records' ASAP SupahDance and Jump Around (Kids Dance Album) were awarded the 24K Dance Award. Released in 2007, ASAP SupahDance contains dance hits such as "Dulce Tirah Tirah" by the UD4 and "Bump That Booty (Bump Bump)" by Gerald Anderson.

Meanwhile, Boy Abunda's Love Life: Life Songs and Life Stories with Boy Abunda, a collection of inspiring songs from various artists, and Kris Aquino's The Greatest Love, received the 24K Compilation Award. A tribute album to her mother, former president Corazon Aquino, it managed to snag a Gold Award merely a few weeks after it was launched last November. In 2007 album Hope: Healing of Pain and Enlightenment also received the said recognition. All three albums were also released by Star Records.

6Cyclemind's Home, Imago's Blush, Sugarfree's Tala-arawan, Urbandub's Embrace, and Parokyo ni Edgar's Solid won the 24K Band Award. Aside from Solid, which was released in 2007, and Embrace, which was released in 2005, all three albums were launched in 2006.

Seven male artists were able to achieve Gold status this year. Pinoy Dream Academy Season one alumnus Ronnie Liang's debut album Ang Aking Awitin and Jed Madela's The Voice of Christmas, both launched last year, won the 24K Award for male artists. Albums released in 2008 which reached the Gold status this year are Gabby Concepcion's self-titled album, Ogie Alcasid's Great Filipino Song Book, and Gary Valenciano's Rebirth. 2008 Awit Awards Best New Male Artist and 2008 Aliw Awards Best Male Hotel and Lounge Performer Richard Poon's I'll Take Care of You also reached Gold a few months after his debut album was launched in February of this year.

Local female artists fared better. Gretchen Barreto's Unexpected, Aiza Seguerra's Para Sa Iyo, Lani Misalucha's Reminisce, Kyla's Heartfelt, Nina's Nina Sings the Hits of Diane Warren, Kim Chiu's Gwa Ai Di, Rachelle Ann Go's Rachelle Ann Rocks Live!, Sitti's Ngayong Pasko, Charice's self-titled debut album Charice, Claire De la Fuente's Something In Your Eyes and Claire De la Fuente: The Christmas Album, and KC Concepcion's a.k.a. Cassandra snagged the 24K Female Gold Award. Regine Velasquez's Low Key also managed to achieve the Gold status less than a week after its release.

Arnel Pineda, lead singer of the American rock band Journey, received the 24K Golden Voice Award.

In the Philippines, an album achieves the Gold status once it sells over 12,500 units, a significant number considering how rampant piracy is in the country.
