Local music channel MYX will stage its annual MYX Mo concert on November 26, 2009 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in Pasay City. This year's event will feature 50 guest artists representing various music genres in line with this year's theme of unity in the face of trials.
The great playwright William Shakespeare once said that music has the ability to soothe the weariest of hearts. Even history has proven time and time again the ability of music to soothe the masses in times of distress and confusion.
And with the entire country still reeling from the devastation caused by the string of typhoons that struck in recent months, this year's installment of MYX Mo hopes to uplift the nation's still shaken spirit by gathering a handful of OPM (Original Pilipino Music) artists under the banner, Bangon, Republic of MYX!
This year's gathering also precedes the upcoming presidential elections to be held on May 2010 making Bangon, Republic of MYX! more than just a rallying cry against tragedy and calamity. Through the initiative of the invited artists, MYX hopes to encourage the youth to go out and cast their votes wisely for the sake of the country.
Since it started in 2002, MYX Mo throughout the years has grown bigger and better and has emerged as the one of the most anticipated local outdoor music festivals.
MEETING OF MIXED GENRES. A press conference was held last November 16 at Max's restaurant in Roces Avenue, Quezon City to officially announce this year's theme. MYX VJs and guest artists also dropped by to personally answer questions from the invited press. There are 50 artists enlisted to perform starting at early noon stretching until midnight. Audiences can expect the bands Spongecola, Callalily, Hilera, Soapdish, 6cyclemind, Chicosci and Silent Sanctuary as well as balladeer Christian Bautista, among others.
"Definitely magiging masaya 'to," Chris Padilla of the punk rock trio Hilera told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) with much certainty. "Tapos ang stand ngayon 'di ba bangon so magsasaya ka na makakatulong ka pa so malaking bagay 'yon kasi kailangan natin ngayon 'yon."
Ney Dimaculangan, vocalist for the band 6cyclemind, is a veteran of the annual event having attended all the previous installments without letup. He agreed that the turnout of fans has notably increased each year—a clear indication of the event's growing stature in the local music industry.
"We've been in MYX Mo events from the start and every year it's a different story kaya pinupuntahan ng mga tao," Ney mentioned.
Another veteran of the event is balladeer Christian Bautista. For a live festival predominantly composed of rock bands, Christian's presence at first may look off and out of place. But that is just one of the great things about MYX Mo, according to the young crooner.
"Honestly merong kaba palagi pero with MYX Mo every year na kasama ako I love the audience kasi they appreciate everything," said Christian. "Pagdating mo doon as an artist meron ka na agad mindset na lahat ng klaseng music nandiyan so 'yon ang gusto ko and 'yon din naman 'yong objective which is lahat tayo mag-unite for a common goal."
MYX Mo 2009: Bangon, Republic MYX! will take place on November 26, 2009 at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
To get free concert tickets, go to the ABS-CBN Center Road Gate from November 16-20 and from November 23-25, 2009. Tickets may be claimed from 1-16 pm. A strict "no ticket, no entry" policy will be enforced during the event.
