Dennis Trillo to play title role in "Gagambino"

Matinee idol Dennis Trillo has been chosen by his home network GMA-7 to play the lead role in Carlo Caparas's Gagambino.

Gagambino, the new Carlo Caparas comic character introduced in one of the latest incarnations of the well-loved Filipino reading literature, was first attached to Richard Gutierrez. When it was first announced, it was thought that this would have been Richard's next primetime soap after Kamandag, and possibly before Captain Barbell Meets Darna.

It was a surprise move when Richard opted to do an original story he helped conceptualize—Codename: Asero, where he is paired for the first time with new Kapuso star Heart Evangelista. Dahil dito, naging libre ang Gagambino for the other leading men of GMA-7; maybe with the exception of Dingdong Dantes na kasisimula pa lang ng Dyesebel with Marian Rivera.

For GMA-7's 58^th anniversary this month, limang primetime shows ang ginawan ng teaser trailer. Supposedly ay unang ipalalabas ang mga trailer na ito sa mga sinehan sa showing ng Regal Entertainment movie na My Monster Mom, starring the mother-and-daughter pair of Annabelle Rama and Ruffa Gutierrez. Ang GMA-7 ang media partner ng movie.

Ganito rin ang ginawa noon sa trio of soaps na Dyesebel, Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita, and Captain Barbell Meets Darna when its teasers were carried by 2007 Metro Manila Film Festival entries Desperadas and Bahay Kubo.

May napili na ang GMA-7 to do the title role of Gagambino—si Dennis Trillo. Confidentially, the young actor was invited to do the teaser pero walang ginawang confirmation kung kaya't naging palaisipan who will be Gagambino. Dahil hindi nga nagsasalita si Dennis, one name cropped up who could possibly be the main star: si JC de Vera.

Tila hindi na rin nakapaghintay ang GMA-7 na ipakita ang teaser until the My Monster Mom opening. Last night, June 2, sa "Chika Minute" segment ng 24 Oras, the AVP for the 58^th anniversary of the Kapuso network was shown and so are the five new shows: Ako Si Kim Sam Soon nina Regine Velasquez and Mark Anthony Fernandez, ang Survivor Philippines to be hosted by Paolo Bediones, Gagambino ni Dennis, La Lola ni Rhian Ramos (an Argentine soap remake kung saan naging babae ang isang lalaki), at ang Codename: Asero nina Richard, Heart, and Richard Gomez.
