Will Alden-Maine series end this May? Why did GMA consultant describe Destined To Be Yours as "flop"?

Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza's first teleserye Destined To Be Yours (DTBY) could be ending this May.

This was revealed by DTBY creative consultant Suzette Doctolero through an exchange of tweets with AlDub fans on April 20.

Some fans noticed that the story of DTBY has already changed direction, which did not sit well with some viewers.

Suzette replied: "Yes pero di nag rate nun. Flop. Now, its rating. So pano mo explain?"

Some fans were shocked when the GMA writer described the show as a flop or did not do well in the ratings.

She clarified that the show was not rating during its first three weeks but now it has already gained momentum, based on AGB NUTAM ratings.

A netizen tweeted: "I apologize for erroneously attributing the writing to you. That is all. But the direction of show badly needs creative handling"

Suzette then replied, "To be honest abt it, the writing teams doing their best thats why its rating now unlike [t]he first 3 weeks ata na flop. Now its good."

There were other netizens who tweeted Suzette about Thea Tolentino's entry as Trish, the third wheel to Alden and Maine's characters Benjie and Sinag.

One asked, "Kase po as far as we know TS ng Aldub to, the reason why we are watching, bat na focus kay Thea yung story?"

Suzette then replied, "Dati, na walang kontra, hindi siya nagrerate. O pano nyo ikakatwiran ngayon yan? Sa totoo tayo."

Another asked, "Hindi sya nagri-rate??? Ibig po ba sabihin the ratings now are because of Trish/Thea?"

Suzette clarified, "Nagrerate now kasi may malinaw na conflict ang kwento at may kontrabida. Yes. Prangkahan. Di siya rate dati."

A netizen also asked if Thea's character as a third wheel is really needed in the story. "we do want it to be a success. won't it rate without 3rd party arc? #ALDUB92ndWeeksary"

Suzette then explained, "Nope. Flop ang first and second week na walang third party arc. Nada."

After a series of tweets, one netizen told Suzette, "then tapusin na!"

Suzette gave an outright answer: "Sa may."

Suzette did not clarify though in her next tweets as to when exactly DTBY will air its finale episode.

SUZETTE EXPLAINS THIRD PARTY. In a separate series of tweets, Suzette explained the need of a third party arc in the story of Destined To Be Yours.

She wrote, "Guys, DTBY is doing good now ratingswise. Pasensya kung may 3rd party. Need yun sa conflict ng story. Rem: di lang kayo ang audience

"Mayroon bigger slice din ng audience na ang habol ay kwento din na gusto ay soap kaya we also have to attend to them

"Kaya again pasensya kungdi puro aldub ang nakikita. But these conflicts are necessary pa rin at di ginawa para mang inis."

Suzette also addressed some fans who criticize Alden and Maine's third wheel in the series.

"Kung naiirita kayo kay Trish then its good kasi as kontrabida ay dapat ngang kainisan siya.

"Again, if di ito aldub soap, i dont think issue si trish. Kaya lang di naman pwede na wala panggulo sa love story nila sa soap. Kailangan.

"Again, we understand na gusto nyo sila lang dalawa pero soap opera ito kaya kailangang soap din ang kwento.

"So tama na yang bash na yan at wala maitutulong and pls wag na idamay si thea at trabaho yan. Aldub ang bida ng soap. Me kontrabida lang

"At kung malaki man ang role ni trish ay dahil siya ang nagbibigay ng hadlang ay conflict sa show. Pero di ibig sabihin na siya ang bida."

The Destined To Be Yours creative consultant assured fans that there's more to come for Benjie and Sinag in the story.

She continued, "Si maine at alden pa rin ang bida at makikita yan sa hanggang sa dulo so relax dahil di pa tapos ang show.

"Again, hindi pa tapos ang show kaya wag mainip. Di pwede sila na agad or else ano na kwento? Need paghirapan ng characters nila ang love

"For them to prove to each other na mahal talaga nila isat isa.. lalo na kapag maredeem na ng char ni alden ang kanyang mali.

"So wag hingin now na magsama agad sila kaloka. Di pa tapos ang show. Meantime, eat ur lunch. Chilax!"

Destined To Be Yours aired its pilot episode last February 27 on GMA-7's Primetime block. The show is currently in its eighth week of airing.

PEP has already sent a message to GMA Corporate Communications to ask for an official statement regarding this matter.
