Ellen DeGeneres replaces Paula Abdul in American Idol 9

Viewers will once again hear the remarks of Simon Cowell (left) and Kara DioGuardi (right) regarding American Idol contestants. Now on its 9th season, TV host Ellen DeGeneres joins the panel of judges, replacing Paula Abdul.
It's a hot, star-studded audition period for the new season of American Idol. Airing on Q Channel 11, the brand new season of the reality singing competition kicks off with a two-part premiere beginning January 13, 6 pm, on Q Channel 11.
Victoria Beckham, Katy Perry, Mary J. Blige, Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth are among the guest judges during the audition period. These episodes also feature some of the funniest and most memorable IDOL tryouts across the United States.
The January 13 episode will show the Boston auditions, the January 14 episode will feature the Atlanta auditions. Emmy-winning host Ellen DeGeneres will be sitting at the judges' desk this season as one of American Idol's regular judges, joining Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, and Simon Cowell. Ellen replaced Paula Abdul.
