<em>Us Girls </em>hails Angel Locsin as "Icon" of the August Awards 2010


  "When she does these things, it's not for self-praise, hindi niya in-announce.  It's really in her heart to help people at hindi niya ina-announce sa public," says Angel Aquino about this year's "Icon" Angel Locsin (not in photo). Actress Angel Locsin is the second "Icon" awardee of Studio 23's lifestyle show Us Girls.  She will receive the prestigious award at the Us Girls August Awards 2010 this Thursday, August 19, at the Icon Bar, Intercontinental Hotel in Makati City.

 

According to Us Girls hosts—Angel Aquino, Cheska Garcia-Kramer, and Iya Villania—the upcoming Imortal actress was unanimously chosen by the program staff for her achievements in show business and in charity work.

 

Angel already has two acting awards from PMPC Star Awards for her performances in the "Pilat" episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya's and on Lobo.  The latter also earned for her a nomination in the 37th International Emmy Awards last year. 

 

Moreover, Angel actively supports the women's group Gabriela and is a volunteer of Philippine National Red Cross.  Her advocacies set her apart from other young actresses in showbiz.

 

At the media junket prepared for the August Awards last Thursday, August 12, Us Girls host Angel Aquino pointed out, "She does a lot of outreach program for, not just her colleagues, but also to regular people who are in need.  Isa siya sa mga nangungunang tumulong sa mga nangangailangan na mga artista.  I think she already has her own foundation.  She even goes all the way to Mindanao to reach out to people who could use some help."

 

The Magkaribal actress also admired Angel Locsin for helping people without seeking media attention.

 

She said, "Ang gusto ko rin kasi kay Angel, when she does these things, it's not for self-praise, hindi niya in-announce.  It's really in her heart to help people at hindi niya ina-announce sa public."

 

Us Girls co-host Iya affirmed, "She really is a good person who does these things without telling others."

 

For her part, Cheska believes that Angel could be a very good example to the youth:  "I mean, she's not the type of girl na kung ano na lang ang maririnig mo tungkol sa kanya.  That's what makes her an icon at her age.  She's not just fashionable but she also plays an important role in the society—inspiring people, making people see the real situation here in the Philippines."

 

Aside from Angel Locsin, Us Girls will also give recognition to the best in the industry. There are awards to be given to the Stylist of the Year, Makeup Artist of the Year, Face of the Year and the Best Dressed Celebrity.


Nominees include television stars Andi Eigenmann, Empress Schuck, Erich Gonzalez, Jessy Mendiola, Kristine Hermosa, Marian Rivera, Cristine Reyes, Rhian Ramos, Carla Abellana, Isabel Oli, Megan Young, Heart Evangelista, and Kim Chiu.


For those who will be unable to watch the August Awards 2010 live, it will be aired on the Studio 23 show Us Girls which airs next Sunday, August 29, at 6:30 p.m.
