PRESS STATEMENT FROM ABS-CBN:

"Gerald Anderson is back on television as he stars in ABS-CBN's first advocacy serye, Budoy where he will play the role of a boy suffering from a delay in mental development.

"First introduced to the Philippine audience via hit reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition, Gerald worked his way up to become one of this generation's most sought after dramatic actors and leading men with his remarkable hit teleseryes Sana Maulit Muli, My Girl, Tayong Dalawa, and Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo.

"As Gerald returns on primetime, he will be joined by promising young stars of this generation, Jessy Mendiola and Enrique Gil.

"Rising primetime princess Jessy will play the role of Jackie, Budoy's childhood friend who dreams of becoming a teacher. Drama heartthrob Enrique Gil will portray Benjamin, Budoy's rival in love and the boy who has everything except his mother's warmth and his father's approval.

"The advocacy serye marks the return of Janice de Belen to the Kapamilya network. She will play the role of Bebang, Budoy's caretaker who adopts him after he is disowned by his real family.

"Budoy, played by Gerald, is the son of Dr. Gregor Maniego (Tirso Cruz III), the top ob-gynecologist in the Philippines and Luisa Maniego (Zsa zsa Padilla), Dr. Maniego's secretary who he chose to marry despite his  mother's disapproval.

"Dr. Maniego comes from a family of doctors. His mother, Dr. Alberta Maniego (Barbara Perez), is a brilliant oncologist. His brother, Dr. Isaac Maniego (Christian Vasquez), is a famous brain surgeon.

"Budoy's birth is a family blessing that later on turns into family shame when they discover that Budoy is suffering from Angel Syndrome, which delays the intellectual development of a child.

"The family decides to hide their "dishonor"—their abnormal son Budoy—and replace him with a normal child.

"Budoy
's power cast will be joined by veteran stars Gloria Sevilla, Dante Rivero, and Mylene Dizon."

I find the writer of this article poorly informed and INSENSITIVE. Please be a "responsible" writer and avoid using words like "abnormal" in your publication. There are so many more appropriate words to use..such as "special needs" Describing ANGELMAN SYNDROME as a disorder that delays intellectual abilities is not a clear representation of what it is all about. Do your research and be well informed!

It's NOT called Angel Syndrome...it's ANGELMAN SYNDROME!!! My son was diagnosed of this disorder back in 2009. It'll be interesting to see how ACCURATELY they will portray A.S. on T.V. since it's not all that common...especially in the Phils
