"Mixed ang qualities n'ya. May nakuha siyang ugali sa 'kin, meron din kay Christopher. Pagdating sa pagiging ma-PR, palaging naka-smile, nakuha n'ya sa 'kin. ‘Yon namang minsan medyo impatient s'ya, kay Chris n'ya nakuha 'yon," Gladys says of her son Gian-Christophe. Photo: Emerson Sy

Gladys Reyes says she and her husband, Christopher Roxas, are not in a hurry to have their second baby. Right now, the couple are enjoying their married life and taking care of their first-born child, Gian-Christophe, who just turned one year old last January 23.

"Masarap ang may anak, fulfilling talaga, iba ang feeling. Pero wala pa kaming plano na sundan si Gian-Christophe sa ngayon kasi gusto sana namin, ideally, mga two years ang agwat," says Gladys in an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during her son's birthday celebration at the Venus Garden of the Grand Terrace in Quezon City.

The Sommereux (Christopher's real surname of French origin) couple are more than happy bringing their little boy around. Gladys shares, "We love going out with our son, pumupunta sa mga malls or out of town. Basta we enjoy every moment na kasama namin 'yong anak namin sa labas man or sa bahay. Kahit naglalaro lang kami, napakasarap ng feeling na magkakasama kami."

In 2004, Gladys had a blighted ovum that caused her to lose her first baby. Looking back now, she and her husband can only be thankful that their loss was replaced by Gian-Christophe who, at age one, is already showing the traits of both his parents.

"Mixed ang qualities n'ya. May nakuha siyang ugali sa 'kin, meron din kay Christopher. Pagdating sa pagiging ma-PR, palaging naka-smile, nakuha n'ya sa 'kin. ‘Yon namang minsan medyo impatient s'ya, kay Chris n'ya nakuha 'yon," she reveals.

The little boy is also showing signs that the showbiz gene is in him. Gladys has already noticed little Christophe's love for music and dance.

Being first-time parents, she admits there are still things they have to learn, and this is where their own parents come in. "Nakakatuwa, hands-on din sila, walang reklamo kahit at this point napakalikot na talaga ni Christophe. Si Christopher naman, dahil first-time father, marami pa s'yang 'di talaga alam, kaya 'di s'ya gano'n ka-hands-on. S'yempre mas hands-on ako bilang mom, pero I can say na malaki na talaga ang in-improve ng husband ko."

Prior to tying the knot, Gladys and Christopher had an 11-year relationship, which the couple now credit for their strong marriage. Incidentally, they also celebrated their third wedding anniversary on January 23. "Iba pa din 'yong long engagement. You get to know each other better, parang makikilatis mo nang husto kung gusto mo nang makasama 'yung tao nang habang buhay."

Like any couple in a relationship, they also have their differences, which according to Gladys, they settle right away as they have become more mature now. "Masasabi ko na kung ano man ang pagkukulang ng bawat isa, tanggap na namin 'yon kasi sa tagal na ba naming magkasama e. S'yempre wala namang perpektong tao. Ang importante, pinupunan ng isa't isa ang pagkukulang ng bawat isa."

Right now, they are not only busy with show business but have become entrepreneurs as well. The couple has put up a store for their whitening and beauty products in Metropolis, Alabang, which Christopher manages.

"Si Christopher, ever since 'di naman active talaga na gustong-gusto mag-showbiz, parang mas gusto n'ya 'yong sa business e. 'Yong store namin, s'ya ang mas hands-on and even 'yong mga transactions kung saan ipapasok 'yong products namin, s'ya na rin ang nakikipag-negotiate. Maganda yung ganito, simple life, complete yung family at may kanya-kanya kaming career," says an obviously fulfilled Gladys.

The couple can only wish the best for their first-born son. Gladys says she would like to see him grow to be "God-fearing, mabait at mag-aral nang mabuti."

"'Wag gumaya sa tatay! Christopher says in jest.

Gladys is currently part of GMA-7's teleserye Bakekang and appears on the comedy show Bahay Mo Ba ‘To.
