Kris Aquino had a pre-birthday bash cum baby shower last Sunday, February 11, during the live airing of entertainment talk show The Buzz. The pregnant TV host received gifts for her unborn child from friends in the business—Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta, Maricel Soriano, Claudine Barretto, and Zsa Zsa Padilla to name a few.
Josh, Kris's son with former partner Phillip Salvador, had a surprise for his Mama. In a taped performance, he played a medley of songs on the piano.
Kris was brought to tears by her son's surprise performance.
"The past weeks have been difficult... Bago ako umalis ng bahay kanina, umiiyak ako. Sabi ni Josh, ‘Don't cry na, Mama,'" a sobbing Kris disclosed. She did not say why she had been crying.
A few moments later, Josh and former president Cory Aquino were called in to greet the birthday celebrator. Kris's camera-shy sister, Balsy Aquino Cruz, also made a quick appearance.
Last but not the least, The Buzz co-host Boy Abunda announced that Kris's husband, James Yap, was also there to greet Kris.
"Happy birthday, baby," said the soft-spoken James.
The usual bubbly Kris was unusually silent. James tried to kiss Kris, but Kris did not look at James. James gave her a peck on the cheek instead.
Something was amiss. There was a noticeable gap between husband and wife.
James was asked to give a birthday message to Kris. The basketball player said, "Sana mapalaki natin si baby James na buo ang pamilya." The couple planned to name their firstborn James Yap, Jr.
Could this be a sign that the two's relationship is on the rocks?
On the contrary, a PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) source said, the couple are "happy despite their petty quarrels." He also observed, "Masaya nga silang magkasama nung sinamahan nilang mag-file ng candidacy si Noynoy [Kris's brother] kahapon [February 12]."
PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) has yet to get a statement from the couple regarding the issue.
