True to her promise, Lipa City Mayor Vilma City has finally made a decision whether to run or not for governor of Batangas in the May elections. Exactly one week after promising to her constituents in Batangas to "think and pray as a leader," the Star for All Seasons has finally decided to run for governor.

This means Vilma will clash with her brother-in-law Vice Governor Ricky Recto, who has declared his intention to run for the gubernatorial post in Batangas months ahead, and incumbent Batangas Governor Armand Sanchez.

In a televised speech in front of about 5,000 supporters, Vilma said, "Now I am accepting the challenge... I am ready. I will file my candidacy for the governorship of Batangas."

Vilma's decision to finally run, after serving three terms as mayor of Lipa City, can be attributed to the overwhelming clamor from the people of Batangas for her to reconsider her earlier statement that she will give way to her brother-in-law, Senator Ralph Recto's older brother.

One week ago, Vilma was very emotional in addressing thousands of her supporters who flocked to the Lipa City Hall requesting her to run for governor. Vilma did not give them an outright answer, instead she asked for a week to decide.

"Sa mga ganito pong pagkakataon, ayoko pong magsalita ng isang pinal sa araw na ito kasi ako po ay emosyonal... Gusto ko po ‘pag ako ay nagdesisyon, it will be final and firm. I will stand firm with my decision because at the end of this all, this will be my responsibility kung ano man po ang mangyayari sa ating probinsiya," she said then.

"So give me time, within a week, I promise you, within a week. It's just that I cannot say yes or no today because I'm still emotional. This time, I will think, not only as a wife, a mother, a mayor of Lipa, an actress, but I will think and pray as a leader," she also said one week ago.

And finally, one week after, Vilma has made her decision and that is to heed the people's clamor.
