Veteran actress Dina Bonnevie could not deny that she was impressed by two of the leading young actors today—John Lloyd Cruz and Dingdong Dantes.
During the press conference of Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita last week, Dina was asked who she considers her top five local actors and actresses. She mentioned some big names in Philippine showbiz: Nora Aunor, Vilma Santos, Gina Alajar, Lorna Tolentino, Amy Austria, Phillip Salvador, Edu Manzano, Christopher de Leon, Matt Ranillo... Dina paused abruptly as if she remembered something.
"Alam mo may isang young actor na talagang bilib ako sa pag-arte niya, that's John Lloyd [Cruz].
"I cannot forget the scene... I mean, okey, mahusay si Piolo [Pascual] pero... No holds barred, ha, pero first time nangyari sa akin na nanonood ako ng TV na napaiyak ako ng isang young actor."
It was John Lloyd who stole her attention. "But I cannot forget the scene na nanonood ako ng Maging Sino Ka Man Part 1.
Yun yung time na he wanted to tell Bea [Alonzo] na mahal niya pero hindi niya masabi. Hanggang sa umalis na siya [Bea] and then he was left na parang wala lang. Then, after a few minutes nag-breakdown siya. Alam mo, talagang umiyak ako the whole night. Talagang hindi na ako nakatulog.
"Sabi ko, ‘Ang galing ni John Lloyd. My God!' I wasn't even concentrating. I mean, hindi ako yung talagang nakababad doon, may ginagawa ako.
"Ang magaling na artista, nakikita mo what runs in the head. Alam mong pinipigil niya, na he's trying to laugh at himself. Yun ang nakuha kong message, he's trying to laugh at himself na, ‘Aha! I put a good act.'
"And after that, tuluy-tuloy na akong nanood ng [Maging Sino Ka Man].
Besides John Lloyd, Dina also sees a promising acting career for Dingdong Dantes, who clearly showed improvement in his acting skill in Marimar.
Dina remembered Dingdong during the early part of his career. She said, "Before kasi I used to say itong si Dingdong para itong anime, e, parang Japanese actor.
Ms. D. further compared the acting skills of Dingdong and John Lloyd. "Itong dalawang 'to [John Lloyd and Dingdong], maglalaban itong dalawang ito."
For me, John Lloyd is a young... kumbaga si Dingdong lumalabas na parang actor.
Of today's young actresses, Dina said that Kristine Hermosa, Bea Alonzo, Anne Curtis, Angel Locsin, and Marian Rivera would also do well in their acting careers.
