Today, May 10, is Mother's Day — an annual calendar event celebrated worldwide, intended to honor each and every household's guiding light. It is said that while the father's main role is to provide food on the table (a notion which no longer applies today given the steadily rising number of working women), the mother serves as the main glue that keeps the family together.
In celebration of the holiday, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked some of our celebrities two Mother's Day related questions. It is interesting to note that despite the varied answers, the one thing that remained consistent was their love and admiration for their moms.
And that's true for all of us, of course.
What is the best Mother's Day gift you can give to your mom?
BARON GEISLER: "Being sober that day, get her flowers and invite her to dinner. I'll actually carry her, if ever, coz she's sick."
ASSUNTA DE ROSSI: "Since wala siya sa Pilipinas, wala akong maibibigay na gift sa mom ko. Isa pa, magagalit lang yun pag gagastos ako sa shipping if ever padadalhan ko ng gift. I think a phone call just to greet her is enough. Lagi nga niya akong tinatanong kung buntis na ako, so maybe that's what she wants - a grandchild!"
YASMIEN KURDI: "My love and care is the best gift I could give my mom. I always pray to God to give her a longer and healthy life because I still want to be with her."
ASIA AGCAOILI: "I gave her a back massager and said, 'For all the burden I've caused when I was young... May this soothe the aches. Thank you.'"
CHYNNA ORTALEZA: "The best gift I can give my mom would not be anything material. Siguro yung alam niya na lagi akong nandito para sa kanya and sa family namin, yun ang pinakamagandang regalo ko sa kanya. She has taken such good care of all of us, kaya I want to show her how grateful I am by taking care of her and her needs. Unconditional ang love niya sa amin kaya yun din ang binabalik ko as her daughter."
CIARA SOTTO: "The best gift I could give her is if I could spend time with her, especially on the day itself, because I'm here in Vegas and I'd be the one to cook and bake everything she wants for the whole day. Although I know I could never do it as well as she does, but I would love doing it especially for her."
JACKIE RICE: "Flowers, so she can realize how much she means to me. She deserves a dozen of flowers kasi special siya."
What's your Mother's Day message to your mom?
ASSUNTA: "Thank you for all the sacrifices na ginawa mo para sa aming magkakapatid. We all love you and we'll do everything to make you proud. Salamat din sa mga dasal mo sa amin. Promise, this year talaga, bibigyan na kita ng apo. Sana twins!"
YASMIEN: "Ma, thank you for always understanding me and being patient with me. I know it's hard to be with me especially when I'm moody but you never let me down and never let me be alone when I'm sad and in trouble. Thank you for the best advices you gave me... thank you for being my mom and my best friend. You are the best and coolest mom in the world! I love you!"
CHYNNA: "Mama, Happy Mother's Day! I can never ever thank you enough for everything that you have done for me. I love you! You are the best mom in the world, pinaka-cool sa lahat! I am proud to be your daughter. Sana pag naging mom na ako, I can be just like you."
CIARA: "Mom, I could not imagine my life without your love and without you in it. Thank you for everything you have done for me and the family. If someday, I would be blessed to even just be half the kind of wife and mother that you are, I would consider my life a success. I love you beyond belief."
JACKIE: "To my mom, you are my hero. Lagi mo ko sinusuportahan at pinapaalala na huwag makalimot sa Diyos. I will follow your advice and soon your footsteps. Thank you for everything, especially for my life. You're the best mom. I love you forever."
