Martha Joy has been competing and winning in talent searches since she was eight, and hopes that hard work will pay off for her again at the 13th World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles on July 11-18. "I'm always, always practicing. Even when I'm in the car, all I do is listen and practice [my entry] songs," said the SOP regular.

Si Martha Joy ay isa sa pretty and sexy singers na bini-build up ng Viva Entertainment ngayon; regular guest siya sa SOP every Sunday. Pero bukod pa dito, isa rin si Martha Joy sa 28 participants na nag-try ng kanilang luck at napasama sa Philippine delegation to the 13th World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) na gaganapin ngayong July 11-18 sa Los Angeles.
"Actually, nasa Toronto ako last month, and then, na-research ko lang ang WCOPA, nakita ko yung registration na June 1, so I just called Carlo Orosa and he heard me sing before. I asked him.
"Actually, I don't have the funds to join the contest, but I was able to raise the money. I had a concert in Toronto before I came, so that's really how I was able to join. Thankfully, all my supporters there came."
And since she's never been to a competition without her mom, kasama raw niya itong pupunta ng WCOPA. "Since I was young, nandiyan siya palagi," sabi niya.
May naka-ready na raw siyang list of songs na kakantahin sa WCOPA: You'll Never Walk Alone for Gospel, I Have Nothing for Open, The Winner Takes It All for Broadway, and Crazy for Country.
Sa lahat daw ng yun, aminado si Martha Joy na sa country siya medyo kabado dahil hindi raw siya masyadong sanay sa pagkanta ng country music. "So, what I'm doing is, I'm always, always practicing. Even when I'm in the car, all I do is listen and practice the songs."
What does she think of her chances of winning? "I'm hoping, I'm hoping... but I don't like to be overconfident. I never want to expect too much. But hopefully, it will go well. It's not my first competition since I was eight.
"I was there in 2003 for different competition, it's called Best New Talent, I won two 'First Place'. I joined two categories and I won both 'First Place'. Hopefully, I'll do the same."
PILITA'S DISCOVERY. Martha Joy has only been in showbiz for a year. Aside sa SOP, nasa Walang Tulugan din siya ni German Moreno.
"So far, I'm really enjoying, very busy. Especially with the album, I'm promoting my album now. So, I'm happy with whatever I've achieved in the year that I've been here. Actually, it's like, next week is my one- year anniversary here."
Nakuha niya raw ang kanyang Filipino citizenship this year.
When asked if she also wants to try acting, ang sagot niya, "Singing only... I always say that I'm a singer actually. People asked me if I want to act. Siyempre, sa SOP, I'm dancing and singing and I'm enjoying that. But really, singing is, I think, what I do best. I've been singing since I was seven. But I'm always open to dancing, acting and modeling. But singing is what I want to focus and concentrate."
