Seryoso na ang dating Bb. Pilipinas 1st runner-up na si Abby Cruz sa pagpasok niya sa showbiz. Kung noon ay tila half-hearted pa siya dahil hindi maitatangging may iba pa rin siyang priority, this time ay buo na ang loob niyang tuluyan nang pasukin ang mundo ng showbiz.
In fact, kasalukuyan niyang sinu-shoot ang indie film na Tanglaw, na sinusuportahan din ng Department of Education (DepEd) at ng OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration). Ang indie film na ito ang masasabing launching picture ng ex-girlfriend ni Paolo Bediones.
"Tanglaw is my launching movie. I play the role of a teacher na nag-domestic helper. Kasi gusto niyang yung mga estudyante niya, mapabuti, mabigyan niya ng magandang kinabukasan, kasi sobrang kawawa sila.
"Parang ako, mas gusto kong mabigyan sila ng magandang place para mag-aral. Yung bubong, tumutulo... We're shooting in Pampanga. Tapos, pupunta rin kami ng Hong Kong for shooting," kuwento ni Abby sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
Si Neal "Buboy" Tan ang direktor ng Tanglaw. Kasama rin ni Abby rito sina Emilio Garcia, Liza Lorena, at Criselda Volks.
Hindi pagpapaseksi ang launching picture ni Abby.
"Wala, wholesome tayo rito na kawawain ang hitsura!" natatawa niyang sabi.
FULL-TIME CAREER. Ayon kay Abby, she will make showbiz her full-time career. Bakit nga ba siya nagdesisyon na pag-arte naman ang gawin ngayon?
"Kasi po, nagawa ko na ang mag-model. Nagawa ko na ang pag-beauty pageant. Noong mag-open ang door for showbiz noong 2007, sabi ko, why not? Why shouldn't I try it? I know that I can and, I mean, I'm having fun at nae-enjoy ko naman 'to," paliwanag niya.
Kasama si Abby sa cast ng ABS-CBN primetime series na Lovers in Paris, na pinagbibidahan nina Piolo Pascual at KC Concepcion. Kaibigan ni Assunta de Rossi ang role niya rito.
Halos lahat ng mga ginawang projects ni Abby noon ay sa Kapuso network. Ngayon ba ay Kapamilya na siya?
"I really couldn't say that," sagot niya. "Ngayon po kasi, kung saan ako magkakaroon. I'm freelance and my mom is acting like my manager. And so far naman po, wala rin naman po akong project sa GMA."
Will she eventually go daring and sexy sa pag-tackle ng roles?
"Ganun pa rin po ang stand ko. I don't see myself as cover girl for a men's magazine," sabi niya.
Hindi naman siya tutol sa sexy posing for men's magazines. Pero para sa kanya, "It's just that mas prefer ko maging role model sa mga younger generation na who wouldn't take their clothes off and be sexy. I know naman na magagampanan ko yung mga role na totoong acting talaga, drama roles, than be in a magazine.
"I have nothing against it. Best In Swimsuit ako noong 2007 [sa Bb. Pilipinas]. It's just that it's my conviction na I'm okay. I think our generation nowadays needs a lot of people to look up to, na hindi naman niya kailangang mag-sexy, mag-daring. That's just me, that's just my stand."
PAOLO BEDIONES. Hindi pa rin nakakawala si Abby sa mga tanong concerning Paolo. Unang-una, may more than two years din silang nagka-relasyon at masasabing pinaka-link niya rin sa showbiz ang TV host.
Pero ayon kay Abby, even before na maging sila ni Paolo, nagta-try na raw siya sa showbiz.
"Even before po na naging kami, nag-i-start na ang showbiz career ko noon. And si Paolo naman, very supportive naman po siya. As in when I have guesting, okay, that's great. It's just that ngayon lang ako nabigyan ng break na sunud-sunod talaga," paglilinaw niya.
Ilang beses na ring sinabi nina Abby at Paolo na time ang isa sa naging reason ng hiwalayan nila.
