Veteran actor Johnny Delgado succumbs to cancer at 61

Johnny Delgado was happy when he was interviewed by Startalk last February 2009, because chemotherapy was "melting" the lymphoma cells in his body. "I'm responding well and I'm doing okay," the veteran actor said. But in the end, the cancer cells proved too strong and the actor succumbed.

Veteran actor Johnny Delgado passed away today, November 19, after a long battle with lymphoma, or cancer of the immune system.

According to a Twitter post by director Laurenti Dyogi, actor Ping Medina, and several of his friends in the industry, Delgado breathed his last at 1:20 p.m.

"Tatang johnny delgado passed away at 1:20pm, let's pray for hs eternal repose.I worked wd him in kay tagal kang hinintay. Wonderful person," said Dyogi in his Twitter account.

Johnny is one of my favorite character actors in Philippine Cinema. He was perfectly honed by Lino Brocka his acting. Philip Salvador, Hilda Koronel and others are among his contemporaries in the 70's. Though he was not an antagonist in Tanging Yaman, his acting abilities proved to be one of the best... I didn't know that he was a son of Ben Feleo until I've read this article... My condolences to his wife amp; family.

Isa po siya sa hinahangaan kong artista sa Pelikulang Pilipino. Natural na natural kung siya'y gumanap. Parang wala sa harap ng kamera. Saludo ako sa kanya.

    Nakikitamay po ako.......
