Aminado ang itinanghal na CNN Hero of the Year (2009) na si Efren Peñaflorida na nais niyang ligawan ang aktres na si Angel Locsin. Ito ay bilang reaksiyon sa naging panayam kay Angel ng programang The Buzz noong Linggo, January 3. (CLICK HERE to read related story.)
Sa panayam naman ni Nelson Canlas kay Efren para sa 24 Oras, sinabi nito na noong 2004 pa raw unang tumibok ang puso niya para kay Angel. Kaya nang makilala niya raw nang personal ang aktres ay hindi na niya pinalampas ang pagkakataon.
"That was last year, November 19. So, nagkasabay yung flight namin papuntang L.A. Ako sa CNN, siya sa Emmy. Actually, hindi ko yun ini-expect, unexpected po talaga yung nangyari na yun... God's will siguro, di ba?" saad ni Efren.
Gaya ng nabanggit ni Efren, nagtungo siya noon sa Los Angeles, California para sa awarding ceremony ng CNN Hero of the Year. Tinalo ni Efren ang iba pang mga nominado mula sa iba't ibang panig para sa kanyang pagsusulong ng "pushcart classroom" sa mga streetchildren sa Cavite. Si Angel naman ay nagtungo roon para dumalo sa International Emmy Awards, kung saan nominated siya bilang Best Actress para sa pagganap niya sa Lobo.
Kinumpirma rin ni Efren ang sinabi ni Angel na nagtungo siya sa bahay ng aktres para kausapin ang ama nito na si Mr. Angel Colmenares.
"Sinabi ko sa dad niya kung ano yung intentions ko. In-open up ko sa dad niya. I was able to pray pa nga sa dad niya," sabi ng 28-year-old CNN Hero of the Year.
Kagagaling lang ni Angel mula sa breakup nila ng ngayo'y dating boyfriend na si Luis Manzano. Pero ayon kay Efren, handa raw siyang maghintay para kay Angel.
Hanggang ngayon din daw ay ipinagdarasal niya ang "pagkakaibigan" nila ni Angel.
"I was able to lay down yung foundation ng prayer, and tapos sinabi niya [Angel] nga po na ang mas gusto niya ay friendship, which is parang natuwa ako," ani Efren.
