Megastar Sharon Cuneta jumped for joy as TV host Vic Sotto told her she got the correct answer for the P2-million-question of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? last Saturday, January 9, on TV5.
It's a birthday victory for the singer-actress, who celebrated her 44th birthday last January 6. This is also the second time the Megastar won the jackpot prize in Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?. The first was in 2001 when the show was still hosted by Christopher de Leon on IBC-13.
Sharon was going smoothly through the game until she reached the 12th question. She had to use her "50-50" lifeline to answer the question, "Ang torch relay sa Olympics ay nagsimula sa aling Olympic Games?" which happened at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
"Kasi ang galing ko sa sports, wala akong alam," admitted the celebrity player. She also mentioned that she liked sports when she was a kid, "tapos na-discover ko ang pagbabasa nang matindi."
Then, she sought the help of the audience for the P650,000-question: "Sa anong isla nakatayo ang Hospicio de San Jose."
The said orphanage was Sharon's chosen charity for the said game. However, she said, she was not sure about the exact name of its location. Luckily, after following the result of the audience votes, Sharon was able to get the right answer: Isla de Convalencia.
To get the P1-million-question, Sharon called director Joey Reyes through her "phone-a-friend" lifeline to help her figure out the original name of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue. The latter suggested "19 de Junio" because it was the birth of National Hero Jose Rizal, which turned out to be correct.
After that, the Megastar had to go through a tough decision whether to accept the P1 million cheque or try her luck again in the 15th and last question: "Ayon sa Act 4 ng Macbeth, alin ang isa sa mga ingredients na ginamit ng mga witches sa paggawa ng potion."
Although she was not too confident with her answer, Sharon chose "lizard's leg," which won her the grand prize of P2 million.
The whole prize will be given to Hospicio de San Jose, whose administration was still clueless about Sharon's intent during the game. "Makakabili na ng mittens 'yong babies!" she excitedly said at the end of the show.
